The squad took part in two Marvin Sims, and Stan Walker made up their shorter stature by speed conference tournaments and the District Tournament. While taking defeats this year in basketball, the Eagles dupli- cated football when they went undefeated in out-of-state play.

HOMECOMING 1962 The 1962 Haigler Homecoming started in the rain of Friday, October 5th, when at 2 o'clock the parade lined up at the school house. The Legion of Haigler led the parade as it proceeded down main street. The band followed the Legion, playing at the intersection. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Wadclel of Madrid were the judges for the floats. Mr. Waddel is the principal of the Madrid schools. At half-time of the game with Madrid, Betty Jean Potthoff and Sheryl Haskell were announced Queen candidates, with DeVonna Smith as the Junior Attendant. Royce Stute, Duane Wall and Alfred Zuege were named King candidates. Also at half-time, winners for the parade floats were announced. The third and fourth grades won fifth place, and the Junior boys fourth position, the Sophomore Class third, the seventh and eight grades second place and the fifth and sixth took top honors with their slogan, A Toast From the Eagles to the Pirates. On Saturday night at eight o'clock, Patty Bush and Mike Clegg carried the crowns for the King and Queen on gold pillows decorated with purple, The candidates for King and Queen followed them through the gym which was decorated in the school colors of purple and gold. Sheryl Haskell was crowned the 1962 Homecoming Queen by Elmer Day, repre- sentative of the football team. Alfred Zuege was crowned l962 Homecoming King by Mary Ann Mahon, cheerleader. Sheryl was presented with a cultured pearl necklace and bouquet of roses by the football coach, Mr. Snell. Alfred received a gold tie tack from the pep club, The King and Queen then led the Grand March and had a dance dedicated to them. The dance music was played by The Rebels until midnight when the Homecoming festivities for 1962 came to a close.
