NURSES ' LIBRARY HAHNEMANN MEDICAL COLLEGE ANQ HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING For Reference Not to be taken from this room I 9 6 6 Presented by the Senior Class HAHNEMANN HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - — ' . ■' r V. r J foreword The presentalion of the Hahnemann cap of the school of nursing highlights our most cherished memories. The cap is representative of your school of nursing. To the student the presentation of her cap signifies a sense of accomplishment, pride, and her future as a professional nurse. The lamp once carried by Florence Nightengale sym- bolizes professional nursing. The candle ' s glow lights the path along which we will travel in our nursi ng career. The rose we received capping day may convey a dif- ferent meaning to each individual. To some it may be life, not only our life ' s endeavor but also helping others. The Vigil Staff 7 f ss 7 e en Su erOj 7?. DC. Dedication In shedding our status as students of Hahnemann, we assume new places in the social strata and new functions in our community and world. Upon accepting these responsibilities, we gratefully and right- fully wish to acknowledge the individual who did much to contribute to our preparation for life and the attainment of our goals. For this reason, the class of 1966 is honored to dedicate this edition of the Vigil to Miss Helen Suttera, without whose support, the days would have often seemed endless and insurmountable. As an instructor, we respect her for her knowledge and efforts in teaching and guiding us through many anxious and trying moments. As an advisor and counselor, we thank her for the long hours of unself- ishly given time so that we might become more versatile individuals. For her many contributions to our education and lives, Miss Suttera will be long remembered and admired. Jus Bet Me There ' s somethin ' I wanta ask you, nurse, somethin ' I ' d like to know Are you really glad that you ' re a nurse, answer me before you go. There ' s many things I ' ve wondered about since I ' ve been in bed- Like, why can ' t I get up and play, as my brother Ned. I ' ve wondered ' bout you too, nurse, ya didn ' t know, I bet, And some of the things I ain ' t figured out yet. Just let me ask you nurse, is it sad to see somebody die? And how do you know what to say when Mom asks you why There ' s so many others here, that I just don ' t rightly see, How you can always manage, a special smile for me. How come you always wear your hat in here, but leave it when ya go? My pa, he coulda busted me, if I ' d worn mine inside, ya know But most important I gotta ask, do you always dress in white? But please don ' t ever change that nurse, that color seems just right. You really do keep clean with all the things you do. My ma, she ' d sure be proud, to have a kid like you. Just let me ask you nurse, where do all those pills come from? How come you don ' t bring them all at once, sure save time ya know. Maybe then we ' d have more time to talk at night before you go. You always seem to know when I ' m feelin ' at my worse. Ya know, if I weren ' t a boy, I ' d wanta be a nurse. OJsJf you Course You must be in a hurry tho ' you never ' pear to be. I ' m really glad that you spend this much time with me I won ' t ask you no more questions nurse, I ' m sorta ' tired tonight My tummy feels real funny, and my head just don ' t feel right But before you slip so quietly out, and turn the lights down low, Would you stay in here while I say my prayers tonight before ya go? And just let me ask you this nurse, before I shut my eyes, Do you ever see two big tears in yours, a fore ' a person dies? Your eyes look kinda wet to me, but I can ' t imagine why Momma keeps tellin ' me I ' ll soon be well, but I know ' tisn ' t t rue. But don ' t worry nurse, when I get to heaven, I ' ll save a place for you! Author Unknown TO THE CLASS OF 1966: Three years have come to an end. The friendships you have made, the joys and sorrows you have shared, will remain with you the rest of your lives. gfa ™ Each of you will go your way; some will further their education, others will move into other clinical fields, and there are those who will hear the sound of wedding bells. No matter what you do or where your paths may take you, you shall always be influenced by your student ex- periences, the people who have helped you and those with whom you have lived in the past three years. There have been times of complaints, but when you look back, you only remember the happy times because they out-number your dismal days over and over again. I wish at this time to take the opportunity to thank the Faculty, In- structors and Clinical Supervisors who patiently guided you and to thank those whom without, there would have been no practical expe- rience available— your patients. With my best wishes for your happiness always, I shall close another chapter in the book of your life. Mrs. EdytheG. Kistler, R.N.B.S.
