“
I do believe the world is swinging toward the light, So spoke a soul on fire with holy flame. Amid the dark such faith pierced through the night, The dreamers wrought, and living fruitage came. To give of self and not to count the cost, To learn, to teach, to labor, and to pray, To serve like Christ the least, the last, the lost — These were the beacon fires That lit the way. 76eme — 7 ewuftAuty tfate c a season., cuut a tune to evcuf frwifto4e under t6e 6eave tA. DecUcatto t We, the class of 1957, wish to dedicate this year- book to the Women ' s Association of Hahnemann. This group of women has been responsible for many improvements in our nurses ' home as well as the hospital. So often those who work behind the scenes do not receive any public expression of appreciation for all they have done. By this dedication we wish to express our sincere thanks for your thoughtfulness, interest, and con- sideration. Out s4cLvl o% Stepping into a very tedious position at this late date, Miss Crawford certainly proved to be an apt advisor and close friend. Since she joined us in September she came upon some problems and worked along with us to enable us to do the best. We wish to thank her for her help and hope this little gesture shows some of our appreciation. Our appreciation of Miss Sitner and Mrs. Madden as our leaders and as our friends was only one reason for our spontaneous desire to have them as our class advisors. For one year they held the posi- tion. Their wit and spirit of just- ness increased our desire to have them guide us. Leaving, they climb- ed one more rung on the ladder to success but while here, as ad- visors and supervisors, they helped us to move in our own way. For their energetic enthusiasm for their willingness to help, for being good friends, and unbeatable class advisors, we want to thank both of them. The day that we have worked for, prayed for and anxiously awaited for three years has finally arrived — we have become graduate nurses. We realize that many persons have been responsible for our success — those who have in- spired and helped us along a road that has not been without its difficulties. To you, our parents, we feel we owe our greatest thanks. Without your love and understanding we never could have started toward our goal, and without your continued guidance we would not have reached it. We know that you have played this important role with unselfishness and sacrifice. By this tribute to you we wish to express the gratitude which we have always felt in our hearts. 4 U  e t fdcutt s4 time t frCac ufi t6 t ou6ic£ i frCantccC. £cc. 3:2 s4eUKiHi4foatta t Seated: Charlotte B. Taking the temperatures, giving the pills To remedy mankind ' s numberless ills; Feeding the baby, answering the bells, Being polite with a heart that rebles, Longing for home and all the while Wearing the same old professional smile; Blessing the new born babe ' s first breath, Closing the eyes that are still in death. Oh Dear, what a lot of patience it takes. Going off duty at seven o ' clock Tired, discouraged, and ready to drop When we lay down our caps and cross the bar Oh Lord, will you give us just one little star, To wear in our crowns with our uniforms, new In that city above, where the Head Nurse is you. s4 U kc t 6e ion . . . cutd s4 tune t 6eal . . . The time which was long awaited has arrived. We found it easy to plan for this day but now that we are ready to take our place in the nursing profession — sorrow is taking its stride. In these three short years we have shared books, good times, sorrow, and friends that will never be forgotten. Yet we each must go our separate ways — whether to the battle, missionary, or teaching fields; or whether to a home and family we must take our own stand as a professional nurse to enrich our lives, lives of others, our community, and our country. May our experiences at Hahnemann never be forgotten and may we truly be examples for the world. ' DOtecto ' Uf, BARNES, JULIA 4830 Westminster Ave., Philadelphia, Pa. BASQUILL, EVELYN 300 W.
