WRSES ' LIBRARY ™W MEDICAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL SCHOOL OF NURSING FOR REFERENCE NOT TO BE TAKEN FROM THE ROOM reSenlin ti 9 tk e 1953 Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital School of Nursing Philadelphia, Pennsylvania OUR STORY will be told and retold in the lives of Hahnemann nurses for years to come, but will never be quite the same as our own story. OUR STORY, portrayed in the following pages, is one of success, failure, re- newed effort, and the final achieve- ment of three years. Jur 3 o, •• To dedicate a book to someone, or something, signifies that they have in some way contributed to the writing of that book. This contribution may have been through en- couragement during the hours of toil. It may have been by sacrificing self gain and pleasure for the end result of seeing the writing completed, with the end gain being greater. This contribution might have included material substance, to make this great work possible. Surely it would have represented much love and patience in nur- turing the author as he grew in stature, and was thus ready to produce the final work. These things could not be said of very many people. One must consider carefully, to whom such a tribute may be given. In the writing of OUR STORY there is a group of persons, who have contributed thusly in making our training possible. It is with love and deep appreciation, therefore, that we dedi- cate this book to Our Parents. n Dedication The reason firm, the temperate will, Endurance, foresight, strength, and skill: A perfect Woman, nobly planned, To warn, to comfort, and command. Wm. Wordsworth Martha M. Cunningham, R.N., B.S. Martha M. Cunningham, R.N., B.S.; Director School of Nursing and Nursing Service. Charlotte B. Reynolds, R.N.; Assistant Director Nursing Services. Anne M. Wolfgang, R.N., B.S., M.S.; Assistant Director School of Nursing — Service. Jean D. Wilson, R.N. (below) Assistant Director Nursing Services. A D M I N I S T R A T O N OUR STORY could never have been told without the tireless efforts of our teachers and supervisors. Each has nurtured within us that seed of inspi- ration which they caught during their training period, and have thus given our training experience purpose, mo- mentum, and satisfaction. We have imperceptibly grown from shy, frightened girls, to women of stature. Each experience of our three years has added to this growth. students Who Ljt row m Student Government The Student Council in its monthly meetings serves as a link between student and faculty. Under an honor system of self-government it upholds the ideals of nursing and promotes dignity and courtesy in our personal relationships. The discipline of students under this system is maintained by the council. Dances, sports, mass meetings and daily chapel are a few of the activities for which it is responsible, thus enhancing our training experience. Pictured below are J. Large, Sr. Rep.; J.
