L edlcfcted to m Without philosophy or poetry, sentimentality or banality, we dedicate the 1941 Vigil to you. Our Parents. Your endless and untiring efforts to bring us up in the manner you had planned may, at times, seem to have been forgotten. And I am sure that we ' ve been most ungrateful and unappreciative— -at other times. Many ol us entered the nursing profession because of family tradition; others, because you wanted us to be nurses; and, still others, because we had the desire, innate or acquired, to serve others when they were unable to care for themselves. All of us, no matter what the reason lor our ( hoice, have learned to love our work, and we want to Follow it through to, at present, an unseen end. With the completion of our training, most of us will savor with pleasure a new and, to us. alien independence. Reluctance to favor our departure Irom home and your constant protection and guid- ance is entirely natural on your part. Consequently, as we stand on the threshold — dependence behind us, and independence ahead — we have attempted to make this record as much yours as it is ours. When you peruse the Vigil in time to come, as you surely will, remember that, at this crossroads in our lives, we were striving with deep affection, and all that the word implies, to win, even more con- clusively than ever before, your esteem, and impress you, for all time, with our devotion. I he Editor.
