Are we happy that our high school days are over? Let's see. . . In September, 1938, we trooped into H. H. S. Each one of us had his own conception of senior high school life but still retained his loyalty to his junior high alma mater. We were a little timid at first, but as we learned to know each other, this feeling soon left, and we began to acclimate ourselves to our new surroundings. Numerous sophomores won places on varsity teams. Our class early began its record of scholastic distinction and meritorious participation in school organ- izations. We proudly accepted the challenge to become a junior class par excellence. Juniors are considered the indifferent class of any school, what about us? Again we fur- nished worthwhile material for school activities. Many of us distinguished ourselves in the field of sports. The Dramatic Club production, Tish, drew its talent mainly from the Junior Class as did the Glee Club for The Lucky Jade. For two years wc rushed through school, now as seniors what have we accomplished? As we pause to reflect, wc realize that seniors are the foundation and strength of a school. Eighty-five per cent of the football team were seniors. One-half of the soccer team were seniors. Except for two members, the entire basketball team which tied for Hrst place in the C. V. A. L. were seniors. Yes, we are proud of our athletic record. Our scholastic record speaks for itself. Indeed, we have shown ourselves definitely capable of leading in all school activities. The senior editorial staff of our newspaper, The Hoo-VVair-N-Wat, proved their originality and ingenuity. Through the staunch support of our senior class we presented a true history of thc past school year in the Heiskelite, the l41 annual. Dramatically we gave you June Mad and leads in Kind Lady. Every club had the steady, loyal support of the seniors. Now we are graduating to be re- placed by another class. To them we leave the challenge to equal or surpass our attainments, fully realizing our reluctance in leaving H. H. S. I JANET ALTER: Commz'rrial,' Double Circle, III, IV, Glvc Club, III, IV. I hear she buys her clothes at Mlle. Triesler's dress shop and has her hair done by Doris Linebaugh. But do you know at Janet Herman's beauty salon, there's such an artistic atmosphere. Why only last week I met Gloria Shrader, the poetess, there. Isn't it thrilling to meet famous people such as-well, Betty Ralls, the surrealist. The Womenls Club went to her exhibit last week and-oh, tomorrow after we have lunch at Evangeline Shultz's tea room we're going to hear Dr. Harry Bates' speak about mataphysicsf' Mr.: But, Audrey, I don't think . . . Uonfused and bewildered, we looked with awe at the juniors and seniors who were so confidently participating in every phase of school life. With a feeling of hopeless bewilderment we plunged into all the channels of school activity. We were not to he denied, and soon wc found ourselves to be a part of H. H, S. Old prejudices began to wane and we prepared to further develop as juniors. As we look back upon this year we feel that we have succeeded in securing for ourselves a reputation for hard work and sincere school spirit. Each one of us has found high place in high school life. We gavc the organizations our steady, loyal support. There were eight juniors on thc football team. Other teams had a fine junior representation. A junior won the lead in the Dramatic Cluh production Kind Lady , and four other members of the cast were juniors. We have tried to show good sportsmanship and cooperation as juniors and hope to continuo to do so as soniors. It is with a feeling of profound regret that we surrender our position to a new junior class. But we are determincd to uphold the standards and traditions of our school. I How I: Ii. Slmlm-In':1k01'. SCOTT BOUNDS To develop and i1np1'ove their photographic technique, the Camera Club was organized by students interested in amateur photography. The first programs consisted of discussions and displays of various club-members, equipment. Reports from photographic magazines proved helpful in supplying hints for picture taking. On December 12, 1940, Mrs. Bounds showed colored motion pictures and lantern slides of scenes from the New York World's Fair and Williamsburg, Virginia. Vernon Christensen presented the movies. Where's the Fire? and Volcanoes in Italy. The club members participated in a national survey by filling out papers concerning the make and amount of equipment which they owned. A guest speaker and former member, Guy Kidwell, Jr., explained and demonstrated the use of his camera equipment. The meetings of the Camera Club are held the first and third Thursday of every month.
