Collectively . . . 1 Physically ... 25 Academically . . 4 Bob Kitten ... 59 Looking back at all the treatises on American public education, spoken in the eighties, a classic quote by William Ross summarizes your education: One of the greatest accomplishments a man can attain is the power to put into words exactly what he means. That's one of the highest marks of an educated man. No matter how much schooling he may have had, he is not really educated until he has developed that ability. A few have this gift naturally. The rest of us have to work hard to acquire it, even in a limited degree. To do so is well worth all the effort we can put into it. L -i . . . (Not pictured: Nancy Snyder, Jesse Williams, Sabrina Rogers) The Juniors are a small but diverse class. Nothing is ever plain and simple with the Juniors. Each one is unusual and definitely out of the ordinary. Members of this class stand out in the crowd. This class provides variety to daily life at HHS. One of the big responsibilities for the Junior class is planning the Junior Senior Prom. Although their financial status was iow, every one knew that the Juniors would pull through in the end. The Junior class is lead by Debora Garcia as President and as Vice President, Corina Rodriquez as she plots Debora's death so that she may take her place as the rightful leader of the Junior class . As Secretary, Diana Ornelas, divides her time between doing her nails and taking notes at the few meetings the Juniors had and also counting the class fortune . As Reporter, Connie Hess, she, ah, well, um, was Class Reporter. Sponsored by: Valley Glass; Roswell Rental, Roswell, N.M ourtesy Is A jfolncy, Nqfcjust A Slog, Romanti Strongest ,—w7 . Wherever we go from here, there will also be happiness. For we will develop the joy we experienced in our high school days and use it to further enrich our lives. In later years as we think back on our high school days, we will be looking back at the way we were. ONE TWO THREE Sponsored by Moise Trujillo Pg. 22 1. Annera Sanchez 2. Jay Shaw 3. We have learned to respect and take part in what symbolizes our true meaning, in the Bobcat name handed down to all of us. From 8:30 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon, Monday through Friday, the halls of HHS resound with voices and footsteps of the people who inhabit it. With the rings of bells and slam of locker doors-the school day becomes a continuous living experience for nine months, and now we say farewell to each other as time runs out. I M To be a member of the varsity football team means hard work and sacrifice especially with the new head coach Frank Sandoval. The climax of all this toil comes on Fridays and Saturday, when the team goes out on the field to display its skill, (and in the case of Hagerman Bobcats, this was quite a display.) In the preseason scrimmage against NMMI, Hagerman looked ragged, but in the next game the Bobcats came to life and tried their hardest to defeat the Demons. From here on the boys knew that if they were going to win, they would have to really try. And they came close to defeating Melrose and Capitan. On the other hand, the Jr. High, under coach Barragon, had one of their best seasons ever. Life is full of interesting things such as squiggle books and morning messages, Halloween plays and puppet shows, friendship stew and eating with chopsticks and plenty of hard work too. We may decide to stay here forever. The class was made up of 18 boys and 11 girls. The mothers who served as aides in the classroom were, Mrs. Eugene Haley and Mrs. Jimmy Copeland. In addition to the regular classes, the third graders participated in enrichment activities, computer training, physical education, music, and art. Special room projects such as baking cookies and celebrating special holidays made a happy busy class. 1st Row: Mario Moreno, Frankie Franco, Byron Haley, Pat Lucero. 2nd row: Barry Guess, Rigo Chavez, Clint Dees, Monica Reveles, Mona Villa, Michael Mendoza, Paula Kent, Raudel Juarez. 3rd row: Oscar Flores, Bobbie Jo Romero, Christina Martinez, Ivon Mendoza, Jason Sweatfield, Joel Martin. 4th row: John Aguilar, Blu Bryant, Rene Mendoza, Chris Villa, Bill Post. Our fourth-fifth combination class has had many challenges to meet this year. But this great group has pulled through every time. We've published an issue of the Cat Pride Times. Our Christmas dance performance was exciting and many of us have read stories to the younger grades. We are a very busy place with two grades in one room. One thing it isn't, is dull. Michael Olivas, Krissy Dun-nahoo, Margaret Trouble-field, Steve Paden, Jesse Post, Gustavo Vega, Myra Flores, Melissa Montoya, Trecy Frame, Aaron Shipman, Chris Kuykendall, Melissa Lewis, Sharon Batista, Jason Salas, Romolo Rey, Sheila Hoover, Missy Sanders, Virginia Carrillo, Javier Flores. 66 5TH GRADE The fifth grade of '83-'84 is one of the most enthusiastic groups Mrs. Garner has ever taught. They are eager to learn the basics in English, reading, math, science, health, spelling, and social studies. They used the elementary science table to perform every science experiment in their textbook and two other supplementary science books. The boys did more experiment in their textbook and two other supplementary science books. The boys did more experiments than the girls. Those who need extra help in reading go to Mrs. Waide's Chapter I class. Those who need help in math go to Mr. Barragan's Chapter I class. Twenty of our twenty-one students chose to participate in Mr. Barragan's Math-a-thon to help St. Jude's Hospital. Mrs. Waide is starting a Read-a-thon now. Students with special needs in several subjects attend Miss Cordova's classes in the resource room. Two of our students participate. Two new courses were added this year: Music twice a week with Mrs. Hansen-Lane and computer classes each day in the computer lab. Besides the basic courses the class enjoys writing book reports, memorizing poems, producing plays, and having parties and pinatas on holidays. Fifth grade is a special time of growth in a student's life: Mentally, emotionally, and physically. Within that school year they change from early childhood to adolescence, and start to become caring, responsible members of society. Sitting: Idali Mendoza, Tracie Contreras, Gloria Carrillo, Raquel Flores, Naya Paden, Marisol Pizarro, Toni Gomez, Rody Hoover, Tommy De La Rosa. Standing: Tracey Huddleston, Jay Kent, Coy Hopper, Shawn Ward, Daniel Hardcastle, Chris Peralta, Richard Franklin, Joe Williams, Krystal Hall, Marcos Rey, Lalo Gomez, Chris Fernandez, Clay Martin, Angelo Madrid. 6TH GRADE Sixth grade has been interesting this year, if for no other reason than having to adjust to three different teachers. The year began with Mrs. Phyllis Sewell who was replaced by Mrs. Cindy Freeman in October. Due to family illness Mrs. Freeman left at the end of the first semester and the year was completed by Mrs. Bobbye Hartwig. We hugged each other with a warm embrace With tons of tears running down our face We backed away saying Good-bye Ending it slowly with a soundly sigh. ■25C“
