J£e Jree of TCnow ecfcje The tree of knowledge symbolizes learning in its many forms, just as a tree in a forest symbolizes life in its different phases. Knowledge opens the door to opportunity and is the key to future success. Our school represents the roots of this tree of knowledge. The roots support and nourish the rest of the tree as efforts are made to increase strength, just as students dig deeply into the unknown for food for thought. The seed of this tree is represented by a young child embarking upon his first day of school. He leaves the safety of his home and ventures into the unknown in search of increased knowledge. The leaves of the tree symbolize the student body. Specialized structures of leaves absorb food as does the mind of a young child absorb knowledge. These leaves later fall and go in search of higher aspects of life. The trunk represents the administration and faculty. These persons instruct and stimulate students concerning facts, attitudes and values, some knowledge and appreciation of which students already possess. Thus, Knowledge is carried through the veins of the tree from the trunk to the leaves where it is distributed. Organizations and activities of the school are represented by the limbs or branches. Knowledge is gained through them, and learning comes from various sources - experience, leadership and social development. Knowledge is a priceless asset - one which everyone, in varying degree, possesses. Through knowledge, many of the rewards of life are gained and a better life is achieved. The more knowledge we accumulate, the greater the rewards will be. Knowledge crowns those who seek her. Our year's commencement speaker quoted an appropriate statement related to the graduating Seniors' class motto, Look forward, not back, in saying, I learned a lesson from a tree: my shadow falls where I can never be.
