During these days we grow in knowledge which helps us to prepare for the future. They contain fond memories, memories which might become dull in the future. The Bobcat Staff sincerely hopes, however, that when you look through this annual that you can recall some of your happiest experiences. Also I wish to thank the faculty, Mr. King, the annual advisor, and every annual member for their help and cooperation. I have truly enjoyed working on the Bobcat Annual. STAFF Annual Jstaff Judy Shaw Editor Ervin Huddleston Photographer Lou King Business Mgr. Mr. T. E. King Sponsor Buildings I sincerely hope that this year of 1964-1965 has provided the Annual Staff and the student body with rich and rewarding experiences and that the pleasure and satisfaction will return in abundance as you turn these pages. Each individual listed has contributed something- a new idea, a challenge, a bit of cheer, a smile, or some influence of greater magnitude- thereby making us all richer. May this book be an instrument to cause the joy, pleasure and satisfaction to return and live again for you. Superintendent s Message RAMON A. WELBORNE principals Message HARRY BOGGS As this school year progresses I observe the conditions about us and am resolved to do something about them. Perhaps this poem by Edgar Guest will put in words more adequately than I just what I mean. TRUE MEN NEEDED The world is needing you and me In places where we ought to be; Somewhere today it’s needing you To stand for what you know is true. And needing me somewhere today To keep the faith, let come what may. The world is needing me and you To share the tasks it has to do; It needs high-minded men to stand Against the thoughtless of the land; Men who will scorn to stoop to wrong To win the favor of the throng. -Edgar A. CLhc (l:tjjht |Iarts nf j$peerh Each part of speech, no doubt you've heard. To start to define, say: It is a word ... A Noun is a word that names anything, As boy. girl, town, or swing. A Noun may be used in various ways. That depends on the role, in the sentence, it plays. Some are Subjects, Objects, or Direct Address; Others are Appositives or made to possess. (this may be confusing, I confess.) Nouns. Common, Nouns Proper. — (the Particular Kind). Singular, Plural, and Collective we find. Proper Nouns must begin with a capital letter; And that helps us to recognize them better. Nouns used as Objects, too. need recognition; Direct, Indirect, or Object of Preposition. Now. a Clause may do the work of a Noun; Example: The question is 'who broke the mill down'. The Clause used above for a Predicate Noun-, In fiction, ofter that usage is found. 'How Television Works' was the lesson today There's a sentence that I hope will convey How a Clause is used as a Subject Noun. (I'm aware the example isn't one of renown.) A Pronoun is a word That takes the place of a Noun. For example, he for boy And stands for town. A Pronoun's uses are like those of a Noun When a Pronoun is possessive, an Adjective is found. As Subjects, Objects, and Predicate Pronouns; I said, and repeat, They're used as Nouns. A Verb is a word that tells something done — Examples are play, sing, sang, has sung. Then, too, there are Verbs that refer to the senses; Like taste, feel, and smell — (The list only commences.) Verbs Transitive or Intransitive? Each kind will be known By its designating Where the action is shown. One thing. I am certain, that you've never heard Of a sentence, complete, without some kind of Verb! Adverbs are words that tell how. when, or where; As often, or quickly, or soon, or there. Adverbs may modify three kinds of words: Adjectives, Verbs, or other Adverbs. An Adjective is a word that describes a Noun. Like enchanting sunset or friendliest town They limit, describe, point out. they number; Good boys, pretty girls, that piece of lumber. Adjectives get play in Teenagers' slang ---As Cool Chick , Big Daddy , and the real thing. Adjectives are used in just three degrees: Positive, Comparative, and Superlative. (An Adverb has the same as these, And it seems like Adjective's relative.) The Article Adjectives number just three. They never vary; they're_a an, and the. Prepositions are often-used little words. Even in slang expressions, As That is just_for the birds. ” We might hear that ju, most breeze sessions. ” No Preposition is present unless there is found Following closely behind it a Noun or Pronoun. (That rule has no exceptions.) There MUST be an object for a Prepositional word. A preposition without object becomes an Adverb. Preceding a Verb, a Preposition's diminutive; 'Cause, u that condition, it becomes an Infinitive. A Conjunction is a word that links words, phrases, clauses; As The referee received both boos and applauses. There're two distinct and separate kinds Of the words we call Conjunctions. Each is classified, please bear in mind, According to how it functions. Co-ordinate Conjunctions link The things of equal meaning. Most common ones we generally use When for them we are gleaning. Those are and, and but, and r — They link words, clauses, phrases; The three are used most frequently In all Conjunctional Phases. Subordinate is the other kind Of speech we call Conjunction. The word, itself, Subordinate, May indicate its function. It introduces a Dependent Clause. And connects it with another; The Independent, or Principal Clause. The Dependent's big-shot brother. An Interjection is a word that always shows emotion. To otner words in the sentence it has no real devotion Hurrah! Oh. boy! Gosh! And how! Ah, this treatise will soon be ended. (If you should say those words right now, This writer won't be offended.) If the feeling shown is strong enough. It's followed by a point of exclamation; But if the feeling is only mild, Use a comma for punctuation. I've tried to list the parts of Speech In my County-Boy-Style of rhyme. If this should help one single soul. It's been well worth my time. --Joe H.
