llaiph Kuehnel is a graduate of the lvlachine Shop in the hlanuary. 19-12. class. Since lxlay. 19511, he has been shop superintendent of the General lxletals Products Company, Mr. Kuehf nel '.i.'orked during the summer of 1941 at CurtissfVVright, but returned to Hadley in Sep' tember of that year to finish school. ln the latter part of November he went out on a halffday job at the .lohn Ramming lvlachine Go.. working as an apprentice. ln February, 1942, he went to work for the General lvletals Go. as an apprentice working in the tool and die shop. ln October, 1943, he left for the Army in which he served for 30 months. He was in charge of a machine shop in the Army Engineers. He re' turned to the General lwletals Products Go., and in 1948 was made foreman. M1'. Kuehnel at' tends Washington University evening classes. Pictured with lvlr. Kuehnel is Gene McAtee, who graduated in the lanuary, 1952, class. The day this picture was taken Gene was starting on his first fullftime job. M1'. Kuehnel has a high opinion of Genes work since he had some contact with him during Gene's partftime job on the work experience program. George Windiiioellei' graduated from the Print- ing Department at Hadley with the lune, 1937, class. He immediately began to work in the printing industry as a press feeder with the Globe Printing Go. After a short time in this job he advanced to work on larger presses at Vv7oodf ward Q5 Tiernan Printing Co. ln 1939 when he was offered the job of pressman with the Hilton Go., Mr. Vv7indmoeller decided that this was the RALPH KUEHNEL and GENE MCATEE INIILDRED RUPPERT SUDHOLT type of presswork he really wanted, The fact that he has continued on for twelve and a half years indicates that the job must be to his liking. Mr. Windmoeller became a member of the Press' mens Union soon after graduating from Hadley. He has served on various committees of the union and is now serving his second term as a member of the executive board. ln January, 1950, Mr. Wiiitlnioellei' started as a partftime instructor in presswork at Hadleyis evening school. After two years of this he is still very enthusiastic about the type of training that is available for those who see the need for self' improvement and are finding ways to obtain it. Presenting Successful Alumni After his graduation from the Woodworking Department in june, 1939, Philip G. Winkler, jr., went to work for his present employer, H. Pauk and Sons Manufacturing Co., as an ap' prentice machine hand. After two years he was moved into the drafting and detailing departf ment. Shortly after that he entered the United States Navy and served as a carpenters mate for almost four years. Following his discharge he ref sumed his work in the drafting office. Dissatisf fied with his progress he decided to further his education and enrolled in Klok Institute, a wood production engineering school in Grand Rapids, Ixlichigan. After completing his course he ref PHILIP G. WINKLER turned to H. Pauk and Sons at his present job in the design and estimate department. Mr. Winkler has added to his success in the woodworking field by becoming an instructor of his specialty- detail drafting. He conducts a class for adults interested in layout and mill' detailing at Hadley Evening School. Three months before she graduated from the General Clerical Department in june, 1951, Roberta Lee lines began working as a partftime comptometer operator for VVohl Shoe Company. Since graduation she has had a fullftime job there. Her work consists of preparing mark-up statements, accounting information on sales, inf ventory and shipments to children's shoe depart' ments in stores all over the United States. Her knowledge of comptometry is very essential to the performance of her duties. Mildred Ruppert Sudholt graduated from the Cosmetology Department in April, 1935. The first position she held after graduation was one Mrs. West helped her find in a shop with high standards. Here she gained the foundation and experience all beginners need. After three years in this beauty shop Mrs. Sudholt changed to another employer. After four years there the opportunity came for her to go into business for herself. The excellent training received at Hadley and the practical experience obtained through her employers made her feel she was prepared for her own business. She now owns and manages a large exclusive salon in Clayton and employs six full time operators. ROBERTA L. JINES X-N

Darwin C. Trail is now a drafting squad leader at the Union Electric Company of Missouri. He has worked there since 1935, first as junior record draftsman and later as design draftsman, except for the time he spent in the United States Coast Guard f1943f1946.j Before he was em' ployed by the Union Electric Company, he had worked for the Century Electric Company. Mr. Trail is a graduate of the Architectural Drafting Department of 1933, one of the seventeen mem' bers of the first class ever graduated from Hadley. He is married and lives in University City. ln his home he has built a workshop where he pursues his hobby of craftsmanship. Audrey Rauss LeRoy did postfgraduate work in the Sewing Department at Hadley after grad' uating from the art course at Roosevelt High School in 1934. Mrs. Smith was responsible for placing her in her first job in the sewing industry at LangfKohn lvlanufacturing Co. There she worked for five years doing cutting, finishing, and pattern grading. After several years of being a successful pattern grader she was assigned to the designing room where now and then she was allowed to design a dress. Later she became an assistant designer. Three years ago Mrs. LeRoy went to work for the Carlye Dress Co. where she designs junior miss dresses, the type of dress for which the St. Louis market is noted. NVil1iam E. Hunn, a graduate from the Commerf cial Art Department in 1939, after knocking at many doors landed a job paying S5 a week. This job he quit in order to work in a display house painting backdrops and signs. Unfavorable conf ditions there caused him to leave and go with Gardner Advertising Agency as assistant to the production manager at S25 a week. From Gard- ner he went into freelancing and made as much money the first day as he had made in a week at the agency. After a varied experience in this field, Mr. Hunn opened his own agency in 1950, but now he is freelancing again in an associated cooperative group of artists. At 32 he is the father of six children and has a lovely wife, home and car Thanks to the wonderful uidance of Hadley's teachers, I have been successful, he writes. lt takes hard work, study, prayer, faith, vision, and the ability to get along with people to succeed.
