SPIRIT WEEK Last year's Seniors dominated the annual Spirit Week competitions winning with a total accu- mulation of 48.5 points. Last year's sopho- mores were second with 43.5. the freshmen of a year ago came in third at 34.5 and the juniors, (this year's senior class) came in last at 27.5 .. but even they found reason for a chant “We're number 4. we're number 4! Activities included a rockathon, extra pledges, a spell- ing bee, pre-team sweats, nerd day, hawaiian day. Blue White day, bonus points for buttons, the spirit chain, the lip synch contest, the spirit cheer and spirit relay. And of course there were those two Olympic days where we saw such events as jello eating, an orange pass flipper race, obstacle race, a balloon carry lifesaver pass, ping pong ball search, marsh- mellow eating contest a feather race and an instant decoration contest.

SPELLING BEE WINNERS Left to right. Heather Al- len. Matt Stutz. Stacy Reynolds. Students at all levels participated in a se- ries of spelling bees district wide with winners getting spe- cial prizes. The United States 18th Army Band from Fort Devens, Mass, presented two shows at HLCS. At two assemblies students were en- joying the combination of jazz, rock, pop, and country music to the extent of students dancing in the aisles and in front of the stage. Band members joined in by not only performing on stage but in the aisles. The show band consisted of 17 males and 3 fe- males. Sgt. Rick Prescott was the band di- rector. They perform throughout upper New York State and New England.
