SPRING TIME 1982 TRIP TO BOSTON Students from the Social Studies Class of Miss Jeanne Morristell visited Boston. The students were busy seeing the many historical sights. Mr. John Pickens also took a group of students their trip was to New York City for a visit to the United Nations, the Statue of Liberty and other famous tourist stops. Aside from the Social Studies classes, there were other more localized field trips in the Spring by other teachers. These included trips to local industries in the tri counties by Mr. Thomas Roach, Industrial Arts Teacher. Students find the field trips not only educational but “fun”. They get a glimpse of the may factors of the past that affect lives today as well as practical suggestions for steps to their future. 12

SCHOLARS! The New York State Education Department granted Regents College Scholarships. The Scholarships awards were effective as of the 1982-83 academic year. Each Regents College Scholarship entitled the recipient to an award of $250 a year for up to five years of study at an approved program in New York State. HLCS winners were Paul Hensley, Lisa Pritchard, Lauren LaCasse who won a Regents Professions Education in Nursing Scholarship, Valerie Stone, Michelle Gereau, Amanda DeRosier, and Barbara Morrissey. The winners of the Regents College Scholarships are the candidates who earned the highest scores on either the American College Testing program or the College Board’s Scholastic Aptitude test. Members of the Hadley Luzerne chapter of the National Honor Society continued to grow with induction ceremonies held in the Spring. Pictured above is the entire Honor Society members. 13
