Hi Cights 1978 Hadley Luzerne Central School Lake Luzerne, New York Published by the Class of 1978 Editors - Tina Washburn Craig Williams Advisor Mr. Donald Racette Layout Design Karen Reynolds Debbie Sehlmeyer Debbie Westerhold Janet Pidgeon Dedication Zo Mr- flames Corkland Sometimes it's hard for people to put into words their appreciation toward another individual. This year it is our pleasure to dedicate the 1978 yearbook to Mr. James Corkland. Mr. Corkland has dedicated 26 years of his life to Hadley Lu- zerne; not only as an outstanding English teacher but as an active member of school activities and to us a special friend .... a man who lends a guiding hand to all and who sincerely cares. Thank you, Mr. Corkland. It may be a textbook, an instrument, or a teacher's guiding hand. But we all need our tools to reach our ultimate goal; our highest success. These tools have helped us to learn and to better our talents. When we look back at them, they remind us of the past. The tools of learning are more than just tools to us; they are memories. studsxz ass Our day to day activities include classes, visits, projects, study hall and general learning. Be- cause of dedicated teachers and concerned staff we are able to really learn the basic needs for life and also able to step out with special activities as shown on the pages ahead. 7all Action We were proud of Kim Neddo being our Lake Lu- zerne Fall Festival Queen. Despite plenty of wet weather Kim never let her spirit get dampened as she presided over all activities for two weekends. Mr. Roach's Industrial Arts classes constructed a leanto that could be split into sections and then the seniors later auctioned it off. Freaky Friday was sponsored by the Honor Society and representatives from each high school class competed for the title of Mr and Mrs Ghoul. Votes cost the voter a donation to the Leukemia drive. Steve Randall Gert Bouchard 7 n Beginning in the Fall and continuing all year, twice every five weeks HLCS had a five minute newspro- gram on WRGB in Schenectady. Student Spectrum was a student look at happenings in the district. The first program of the series this year featured Kim Neddo, Bill Smith, Carol Harris and Karen Reynolds. Simone Lorraine Madeline Russo Gigi Gereau Blue and White Day was a day to raise Spirit at H-L and along with it many eyebrows as stu- dents dressed up for the occasion. One of the Fall attractions was a Mexican red legged tarantula brought in by Bruce Werley and kept in the Biology room dur- ing the year. Often in the Fall many gathered around the coke machine. Everybody .Coves Opal was the title of the Broadway show which was presented as the Fall school dramatic pro- duction. It was fun for all with a message of true caring in the end. Winter Activity included another successful Bloodmotiile spon- sored by Student Council. More than 1700 canned goods were collect- ed to be distributed by the Lions Club to needy families. The can drive involving competition among all classes saw the seniors winning with the longest line of cans from the Science room to the Guidance office. Amy was one of 11 chosen from 165 at large candidates and only 1 of 3 in the state selected outside of the New York metropolitan area. In Syracuse she presented poetry she created while accompanying herself via piano. mm y X Throughout the Winter and Spring, students from the Middle School and High School continued to create new programs which were presented on WRGB's Student Spectrum. H-L was the only district which had two pro- grams in each 5 week session and the only district to have a Middle School represented. Several groups brought in assembly programs much to the delight of chil- dren of all ages. In our second photo to the right we see part of one of the two operettas that were presented by a group from the Albany area. Com- menting on the behavior of many stu- dents seeing and hearing opera type music for the first time, the perform- ers spoke highly of our students. Mrs. Jane Hall and Mrs. Marion Han- lon of the Lions Club Auxilary saw their dream come true as the high school band received new uniforms this year. Gary Gazaille and Karen Reynolds model the uniforms as band director Mr. Robert Davis looks on. The Student Council under the leader- ship of president Gert Bouchard con- tinued to find new and interesting pro- jects for students to pursue. It's been said Music is the voice of the angels. As seen on this page we have plenty of the heavenly cherubs then ... participating in high school chorus, right: doing their own origi- nal 7th grade musical shows (below) and participating in the art of ballet, (below) Ms. Darla Jones and Ms. Betty Lambeth were primarily responsible for the activities which not only are crowd pleasers but excellent areas to develop self discipline and explo- ration of skills. A highlight of the Spring of 1977 just as it has been a highlight for Spring times at H-L the past few years is the annual musical. It was......... Gigi Gereau Craig Williams Bill Smith Renee Cartier 28 Karen Reynolds, Ed Clarke, Jim Thorpe, Dan Mosher and Richard Quirion Debbie Sehlmeyer There is so much more we would like to show and tell about our school year. Student life is very extensive. Some of our story will be told in the 8 page supple- ment which will be distributed in September 1978. But there simply are not enough pages to give every worthwhile class and activity coverage; indeed not enough to even list them. Hadley Luzerne we have found is a most exciting innovative district. We are proud to be a part of it. Although we may have run out of room for photos we know that you as well as the staff will always have memorable times to recall and fondly enjoy as we relive the days at H-L as ac- tive student life. We also wish Mrs. Hehr well' as she leaves the hal- lowed halls after several enjoyable years with us in Spanish German. semoKS § Kelley Allen Linda Been Terry Carleton 34 Sue Ann Allen Gertrude Bouchard Tina Champagne William Barrows Deborah Brewster Vicki Chandler Diane Cronin ! They also sold books in classrooms. Better than 5 of the class did the above work. It was a very dedicated handful of seniors who put their creative talents together for the nuts and bolts layout of this book. Spending many hours after school between September and February and even hours at home in some cases, the 'Tabor of love was typed, retyped, photos taken, mis-taken, cropped, identified, names spelled and mispelled .. and from it all ... this year of memories. There are many volunteers who give much of their time and effort ... as aides in the elementary, assisting in the middle school and often tutoring in the high school or coming in to share business experiences. Although we have not been able to catch all these volunteers we want to give public thanks. Without their input our school district would not have the closeness between student and community that it does have. There also have been faculty not available at the time photos were taken. Although not seen on these pages, they are remembered and appreciated. 94 We also felt it would be appropriate to publish the HONOR SOCIETY members at this point of the book. We know if it were not for the dedication of our faculty through closely planned lessons, ex- tra time spent after school encouraging and coaching, those students seen below would not have the honor of being a member of the organization.
