An underclassman was talking to me in the halls one day and rather jokingly asked me why anyone would want to leave the hallowed halls of H-L. Isn't the world full of hatred, war, and evils that are waiting to devour the unsuspecting innocent? Wouldn't it be easier to stay within the sheltered realm of our parents than to risk possible failure in the wide, wide world? Perhaps it is easier, but we are anxious to face the world as we know it is and to make it a better place for our children. Our generation will always remember three men who have gone before us with this same intention and whose deaths are fresh in our minds. We want to correct the wrong that put these men in their graves. Perhaps the words of one of these men, Robert Kennedy, best expresses the feelings and dreams of young people all over the world: Some men look at things as they are and ask why. I look at things that never were, and ask why not? Suzanne Gazaillc Editor-in-Chief Senior year is a time for realization. It is a time when we face many problems that were put off when we were younger. Things like Vietnam, college, and careers are suddenly a reality. Our minds tell us that today is the time for these decisions, for, tomorrow may be too late.

Looking back seems to be a favorite pastime for the young as well as the old. Every year the Seniors are asked to-look back into their past years at Hadley-Luzeme and to choose a teacher for their yearbook dedication. When the class of 1969 faced the problem, the solution was in- deed difficult. Every one of us had his or her favorite teacher and it soon became apparent that the entire high school faculty was eligible for the dedication. Yet, each one of us wanted our teacher to be one that had never received the honor but truly deserved it. It seems that in this endeavor, the Seniors have attained their goal. As Seniors we do not get to see this teacher often, yet when we do, we find that her ready smile has not lost its warmth. As June approaches, we realize that we never took the time to thank the one who brightened 6ur lives so much. The Seniors would like to make up for it now, and give our 1969 HIGHLIGHTS dedication to Mrs. MADELINE MANFRED. 4
