Behkatum The 1965 Senior Class of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School, does hereby dedi- cate, with great pleasure, our edition of “Hi-Lights” to John Earl Pickens. This man with his unusual manner, has grown very dear to our hearts. Through all our Senior High years, Mr. Pickens has steadily gained respect and admiration, from us, in return for the intelligence and experience we have received. His sparkling personality and wonderful sense of humour, often filled those long class hours with enjoyment and contagious merriment. Teaching a class such as ours, was not exactly an easy task, however he seemed to have succeeded where every- one else failed. From all the Seniors, we say, “thank-you,” Mr. Pickens. 2 STUART M. TOWNSEND Supervising Principal Congratulations to the Class of 1965: You are graduating into a world at a time when there are many opportunities and many responsibilities. You take your place in world affairs when your nation needs the help of its most able citizens. Our free enterprise system, under God, makes the United States of America the best place in the world to live. Let us be positive in our thinking, aware and active in solving national affairs, knowledgeable about our freedom and heritage, and al- ways willing to stand up against thosewho would give away or destroy our American way of life. Welcome, then Class of 1965, to this proving ground - bring with you all the courage and vitality and determination you can muster. You are going to need them just as your country is going to need you. Stuart M. Townsend Supervising Principal Abmmtstrattmx MR. JOHN J. CASTLE, Guidance Counselor and Secretary MARGERY BRINER MR. Go on to College? Learn a trade? Get a job? Join the Service or the Peace Corps? You have many choices, but remember: your High School diploma is not a one-way ticket to .success. It's only an indication that you have learned the basic skills re- quired to function in our highly complex society. Don't sit back and expect to reap the re- ward of your years of hard work. Society isn't built that way. There is no such thing as a sure thing . You must take advan- tage of available opportunities and continue to grow and learn if you expect to better yourself and succeed. Success is predicated on self determination and personal initia- tive — not past accomplishments or diplomas. The future is up to you — so make your choice a true commencement !
