BOARD OF EDUCATION Left to right: Mr. Maxwell Towers. Mr. Charles J. Aldrich, Mr. Joseph W. Bulger. Clerk, Mr. Mitchell R. Bullis, President, Mr. William J. Grant, Mr. Arthur J. Brown. A MESSAGE TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 54-55 We, the Board of Education leave to you, our youth of today, our future leaders, the youth who will defend our nation, our rights and our liberties. We leave to you this beautiful United States of America with its beauty of lakes, farms, and mountains; its unlimited opportunities for youth, its men of science, engi- neering and technical skills, its plains, deserts and rivers. We leave this great country of ours that has at times been so ill used by man; as well as these lands that have been gouged and dug and planted and used for purposes at times to the detriment of our broth- ers. This land we leave you that you may use it for the betterment of man. We leave you our schools and colleges that you may broaden your scope of education, also with the opportunity to compete in all competitive sports. We leave you this small community in our country that has been so kind to us, a dot on the face of the earth that allowed us to earn our bread and raise our families, where all folks we met, as we passed by we could call a friend, a wave of the hand and a cheerie HI. These things we leave you because enemies you will make and forget, but friends are never forgotten. We leave you a library of great books where knowledge may be had. We leave you the right to a secret ballot, to choose your leaders as you see fit. We leave you the right to be a candidate for all offices of our land, be it governor of your state or Presi- dent of your country. So youth we leave you these and everything this great and beautiful country has to offer. AND MORE We leave you our love, our understanding, and our cherished hopes that you may use these opportunities for the betterment of your brothers. 4
