PUBLISHED BY THE 1955 SENIOR CLASS HADLEY LUZERNE CENTRAL SCHOOL LAKE LUZERNE, NEW YORK We, the Class of 55, dedicate this year- book to Miss Elizabeth Smith. To her we extend our appreciation for her homeroom guidance and her willingness to help us in our many difficult tasks. Only through her love, devotion, and thoughtfulness have we been able to attain our goal. 2 FAC U LT Y A D M BOARD OF EDUCATION Left to right: Mr. Maxwell Towers. Mr. Charles J. Aldrich, Mr. Joseph W. Bulger. Clerk, Mr. Mitchell R. Bullis, President, Mr. William J. Grant, Mr. Arthur J. Brown. A MESSAGE TO THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 54-55 We, the Board of Education leave to you, our youth of today, our future leaders, the youth who will defend our nation, our rights and our liberties. We leave to you this beautiful United States of America with its beauty of lakes, farms, and mountains; its unlimited opportunities for youth, its men of science, engi- neering and technical skills, its plains, deserts and rivers. We leave this great country of ours that has at times been so ill used by man; as well as these lands that have been gouged and dug and planted and used for purposes at times to the detriment of our broth- ers. This land we leave you that you may use it for the betterment of man. We leave you our schools and colleges that you may broaden your scope of education, also with the opportunity to compete in all competitive sports. We leave you this small community in our country that has been so kind to us, a dot on the face of the earth that allowed us to earn our bread and raise our families, where all folks we met, as we passed by we could call a friend, a wave of the hand and a cheerie HI. These things we leave you because enemies you will make and forget, but friends are never forgotten. We leave you a library of great books where knowledge may be had. We leave you the right to a secret ballot, to choose your leaders as you see fit. We leave you the right to be a candidate for all offices of our land, be it governor of your state or Presi- dent of your country. So youth we leave you these and everything this great and beautiful country has to offer. AND MORE We leave you our love, our understanding, and our cherished hopes that you may use these opportunities for the betterment of your brothers. 4 District Superintendent MR. LYNN F. Madison CLASS HISTORY We started our first year in High School under the direction of Mr. Meadows and Mrs. Woods. Our presidents were Dudley Holland and Eugene Clute who were assisted by Hilda Champagne and Carol Holland as the scribes. Carol Aldrich kept watch over our treasury and Edward Rayder represented us in the Student Council. Our second year soon followed under the watchful eye of Mr. Gardner. Eugene Clute was elected president, our secretary was Hilda Champagne and Carol Aldrich kept her position as treasurer. Joan Bishop and Pat Brannon represented us in the Student Council. We began to make money by selling seeds and coke. The third year appeared with Miss Smith to help us. Dudley Holland was our president and Carol Holland vice president. Hilda Champagne took notes while Don Sebald was caretaker of the class money. Joan Bishop and Pat Brannon again represented us in the Student Council. We sold candy, writing paper and Christmas cards. Our pride and joy were our rings which arrived in February. Our Junior Prom was a big success. The theme was THE WISHING WELL and THE BLUE RIFFS furnished the dreamy dance music. Dudley and Carol Holland were crown- ed king and queen. Finally our Senior year came. Mr. Castle was our class advisor. Dudley Holland wielded the gavel and Don Sebald assisted him as vice president. Kay Krienheder was our secretary and Beverly Hanlon was elected to watch our money. Marlene Hammond was elected treasurer of Student Council and along with Larry Waite, represented us. We sold magazine subscriptions and had paper and scrap drives. We are all very proud of our yearbook and the crowning event will be our trip to Washington and New York. On returning, we will await our final chapter at H.L.C.S. as the grand old seniors who will be safe then in the wide, wide world. Joan and Marlene CLASS PROPHECY Boston, Massachusetts August 22, 1965 Dear Irene, Well, I have just returned from my two-weeks vacation. As you know, I am in charge of the laboratory, of the Lahey Clinic, here in Boston. I see Beverly quite often. She is on the nursing staff here and enjoys her work, as she meets many interesting people. Weren't you thrilled at Dudley becoming president. Imagine, our own classmate! I think he will make a very good one. Since Carol has tried her hand at practically every job known, she can now And out what being first lady of the land is like. While in New York, I met Jackie. She is secretary to the president of the New York Stock Exchange. She told me that Louie Colvin has become quite a gentleman and associates in the highest circles of New York Society. On my way to the train, I saw Walt's name on the marquee in front of Madison Square Garden. He's the star of the rodeo and has become quite famous as a cowboy. While sitting on the train I overheard two men say that Howard Rhodes is the best professional hunter around and they were going to join his party that is going to Africa. Talking about hunting, did you know that Ed is a game warden in Yellowstone National Park. While in Grand Central, I bought a paper and read two very interesting articles. One told how Bob just finished trying out a new jet for the Air Force. No information was given, as it was top secret, but they said that he is No. 1 man on their list. The other was about Kay Krienheder. She had just cleared up a big case in the Chicago slums. I guess she really enjoys being a social worker. When I changed trains in Albany, I wanted very much to stop at your famous beauty salon, but I only had ten minutes, so I had to rush. I met Carol Aldrich on the train and she told me she was the highest paid accountant in the General Electric. She also said that Betty was a medical receptionist for a famous Doctor in Philadelphia. While home I visited Hilda and Kay. They both have lovely homes and are very contented housewives. I met Pat in the village and she told me that Levi and she had just finished their house and were anxious to move in. Marlene phoned me and told me that she was first lady of the Stony Creek White House. I asked about Don and she said that he had given up his idea of being court jester in the White House in D. C. He was contented being jester on the Stony Creek White House. She told me that Meredith had a very good job in Westinghouse out in Buffalo. She has been there quite a while and enjoys it very much. Don Sebald went by the house in his bright red Cadillac convertible with a white boxer sitting in the back. He certainly is a playboy. After graduating from college, he still likes the playboy part. Irma has retired to the job of housewife and says she is glad she did. Larry is now manager of the world famous Globe Trotters who are touring Europe. Well, Irene, that's what has happened to the Class of 55. They surely have changed from their last year at H.L. C. S. Love, Joan 19 r The S eNior Class of H.L C.S.
