l oy zye '54 In the fall of 1950, we freshmen gathered in the study hall under the direction of Mr. Meadows to begin our four year voyage of high school. Vic Grant captained our crew and Bob Baker was his able assistant. Janis Perry kept the ship's log and Dottie Adams took charge of our ship's meager treasury. Bob Shiel and Barbara Stanley represented our crew in the fleet's council. The first leg of our voyage wasn't very eventful because we did not do very well in sports, nor did we increase our class treasury. The next fall we set sail from the science room with Miss Sulich as chief commander. Captain Paul Gibson and co-captain Eileen Saheim took charge of the voyage. Babara Stanley filled in the pages of the log and Gary Bovee handled the ship's funds. Joan Johnson and Bob Shiel sat in on the meetings of the fleet council for that trip. Bob Shiel became a seaman first class when he was elected vice president of the association of vessels. Our treasury began to grow as we sold garden seeds, hats and cokes. In June we docked and prepared for the third year of our voyage. In September we sailed off from the social studies room under the guidance of Miss Woodin. Paul Gibson still directed the voyage. Barbara Stanley continued to take notes in the log. Harry Zeigler kept records of our financial status. Joan Johnson and Elizabeth Rayder represented our class in the fleet council. Dottie Adams added her name to the list of seamen first class when she was elected treasurer of the seamen's association. Sailors Gary Bovee and Harry Zeigler were chosen to represent our vessel at Boys' State. Bob Shiel was chosen to go as first alternate. Our crew came in first in sports and our ship was adorned with the trophy. We sold greeting cards, stationery, candy and memory books to add to our ship's funds. We paid the cost of pro- duction for the school play, therefore, we received the profits from it. Our class rings arrived in March and of course we were very proud of them. The Junior Prom on May eighth was a big success. An Hawaiian theme was used and the ball- room was decorated with fish nets and palm trees. Gordie Randall's orchestra provided the music. Paul Gibson and Joan Johnson were chosen as king and queen. We started the last leg of our journey in September 1953. We again set sail from the social stud- ies room with Miss Woodin as ship's commander. Paul Gibson and Ed Zeigler were captain and co-captain of this voyage. Ida Scofield began the last entries in the ship's log, while Harry Zeigler continued to watch our finances. Barbara Stanley and Josie LeBarron sat in on the fleet council meetings. Magazine subscriptions brought in most of our money. In April we will leave for Washington and N. Y. where we expect to see: The White House, The Lincoln Me- morial, Mount Vernon, The Statue of Liberty and other points of interest. On our return to Luzerne, we will sail for the Port of Graduation where we expect to dock on June 28, 1954. JOSIE LeBARRON 10
