AGA! ST PLA! VILLE The Boys Swim team lost a heartbreaker to Plainville, 87-855 however, the meet itself, not the final result, proved to be a good indicator of the team's desire to win and its spirit. lt was a great meet, reflected first-year coach Clayton Northgraves. indeed it was an accomplishment to come within two points of Piainvilie, which lost by two to Woodrow Wilson, which beat H-K by twenty early in the season. lt was a see-saw battle all the way, he added. The Cougar and Plainville swimmers seemed to be locked into a power duel throughout the meet, exchanging the lead several times. ,The first indication of Plainville power shined through in the butterfiy event, in which they grabbed the first three places, and put them on top 51-43. But, the Cougars battled back to tie the meet 63-63 and eventually grabbed the lead, 81-77, going into the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, in which H-K had to place second and third to clinch the meet. Although the first team of Steve Lentz, Mike Gerity, Todd Wysopai and Shawn Washburn placed second, Plainville barely edged them out for first and third. Although heartbreaking, the meet should make the boys proud of their individual achievements in it: six first place finishes were claimed by Cougar swimmers, including the 200 medley relay team of Robert and Andrew Klein-Ftobbenhaar, Kevin Taylor, and Steve Nessen, Taylor in the breaststroke, Andy K-Ft in the 200 l.M. and the 100 freestyie tin which he established a pool record of 52.013, John Wilson in the diving com- petition, and Nessen in the 500 freestyle. Mike Wiison and Wysopal added seconds in the breaststroke and the 500, respectively. Left: Assistant Coach Chuck Arabas. Middle: The swimmer from outer space?
