Work began on the 1980 edition of Opticon in March of 1979 and ended in July of 1980 with the completion of the summer supplement. Without the dedication and perseverance of a relatively small number of people on the staff, who often made considerable personal sacrifices, this book could not have been completed. Other individuals in the Region 17 community - students, faculty, parents, and merchants - have contributed to the publishing of this edition through their financial and moral support, and, most of all, by meeting our sometimes unreasonable requests with cooperation, cheerfulness, and promptness. In particular, we would like to thank those individuals who graciously overlooked the mysterious disappearance and even reappearance of supplies and other items. We hope that you will enjoy Opticon 1980 and that it will be a source of fond memories for years to come.
