Mrs. Pamela LaFleur, Principal Principal's Message Each year I am faced with the challenge of writing the principal's message and a great deal of impor- tance is attached to this task. I always hope that through this brief message parents and students can be reminded of the blessings for which we should be thankful. We have an outstanding student body. Community support and interest in the school are tremendous. We have a faculty and staff who are totally dedicated to the task of educating our youth and meeting the needs of the school and community. There is no charge for the quality of students we have. There is no charge for the support of the com- munity, and the dedication of the faculty and staff. In my office I have a poster which says, The best things in life are free.” There is no charge for good behavior, a helping hand, taking the extra step, a warm and friendly smile, a pat on the back, or for caring. All of these free items can be found in Hackberry. and in my opinion, are what go together to make our school and community a place of which I am proud to be a part. School Board Member's Message The opportunity to share thoughts through a message in the Hackberry High School Yearbook is always appreciated. This year I would like to share some thoughts regarding human relations, which is a necessary ingredient for suc- cess in life. A very successful businessman once said runn- ing a business is about 95% people and 5% economics. THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF HUMAN RELATIONS 1. Speak to people. There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greeting. 2. Smile at people. It takes 72 muscles to frown, only 14 to smile. 3. Call people by name. The sweetest music to anyone's ear is the sound of his or her own name. 4. Be friendly and helpful. If you would have friends, be friendly. 5. Be cordial. Speak and act as if everything you do is a genuine pleasure. 6. Be genuinely interested in people. You can learn to like everybody if you try. 7. Be generous with praise — cautious with criticism. 8. Be considerate with the feelings of others. It will be appreciated. 9. Be thoughtful of the opinions of others. There usual- ly are three sides to a controversy — yours, the other person's, and the right one. 10. Be alert to fine service. What counts most in life is what we do for others. John A. Debarge, School Board Member
