HACKBERRY HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL The Challenges Of The Past Encourage Him The Challenges Of The Present Lead Him To Action The Challenges Of The Future Remind Him Not To Rest I wish to express my congratulations and appreciation to the Round-Up Staff and their sponsors for their time and effort spent toward providing us with a superior yearbook. To all of the students of Hackberry High School I offer the following as a good motto to follow - “My own self, at my very best, all the time.” This is the motto of the American Youth Foundation Camp in Michigan. I also wish to bring forth the followingthoughts: Man must work, play, love, and worship to get the most out of life. Life is a four-sided affair. You have not one, but four lives to live—a four-fold opportunity to grow. A brain, a body, a heart, and a soul—these are our living tools. It is your duty to strive to develop each side—the mental, physical, social, and religious, to the fullest extent. God Bless You. MR. JOHN A. DEBARGE PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE i, William. I Dare You (St. Louis: Privately Printed, 1965), p. 19.

DEDICATION Hackberry High has stood as a center of learning in our community for more than a half of a century. Hundreds of students have gone out from this school to take their places in colleges, vocations and jobs. The records of achievement which they have left behind and the measures of success which have come to them, indicate that Hackberry High School was and is an institution of learning of which any community might be proud to call its own. Yes, Hackberry High School stands as a monument to education. Figuratively speaking, we may say that its protecting walls have been a shield against the ill winds of illiteracy; its doors have opened the way to learning; its windows have let in the light of knowledge and truth; its roof has withstood the storms of intolerance. Within its walls, its warmth has served as a friendly hearth, radiating trust and friendship among students and teachers. And so in appreciation to all who have helped to maintain Hackberry High School To the administration which sponsored our education To every teacher who has taught in the classrooms To the principals who have guided us To all other school personnel To the parents and patrons who have inspired us To this community which has supported us And so to these, to every wholesome and uplifting influence which has helped to make Hackberry High School what it has been and is, we, the annual staff, dedicate this space in our annual.
