0??te4 ciye THIS I BELIEVE Any American boy or girl with one ounce of will power and normal intellectual faculties can get an education in these United States of ours. An education is a ticker to the better things of life. Without an education one is handicapped spiritually, socially, financially, and left with lack of understanding as to what is happening in this world in which we live. Laziness, rather than the lack of intelligence or in is the greatest cause of failure in schools of today. I believe that it is not only a disgrace but also a sin for a student to waste four years of high school in frivolous play, unbecoming con- duct, or just plain loafing. One owes it to himself, his parents, his state, and nation to do his best with what faculties God gave him. Education is the sum total of all one learns in his life span. Surely one cannot afford to spend his time learning the evil and non- profit- able things of this world. Why not learn the good, joyous, clean, and up-lifting things? Education is the vehicle on which one most often rides to fame, glory, and wealth. Ignorance is so often the slippery path that carries one to failure, disgrace, despair, and poverty. Without an education one never knows of the past, nor can he dream intelligently of the future. He can only experience the present; he cannot appreciate the beautiful, the noble, and refined, up-lifting things of life. He must keep his nose on the level with that of the swine. He sees only the ugly, repulsive, unattractive side of life. His faith in man-kind is often shaken, and his vision of God is dwarfed. Without an education, one can be saved from eternal condemnation, but one can never be very successful in leading others to seek salvation. If this nation of ours fails as a great power, it will be brought about by ignorance on the past of its people and the lack of faith in the Nazarene Judah.
