“Those river rats are back” was the cry but the Bulldogs’ try for two in a row was doused by cross-town rival, Lanier. Even though the Bull- dogs drew the first blood, the Poets’ razzle-dazzle proved too much for the Dogs, ending the game with 35-21. Upper Right, McKinnie hauls in a pass. Middle right, Kilgore rolls right and finds plenty of running room.

It was a special night, distinguished from all others. The crowd was joined together by an intangible quality of expectancy. Al- though the Bulldogs gave their all, the Blue Devils could not be stopped. Feelings of anxiety for the game mingled with feelings of anticipation as half-time approached. As the entire crowd listened anxiously for the long-awaited outcome of weeks of prepar- ation and expectation, Mark Smith proudly crowned its first homecoming queen: Miss Penny Wooten. Fifteen seniors rounded out their high school career against Moultrie. Wearing all White for the first time ever, on request by the seniors, Mark Smith put on an aerial exhibition but the outcome was indicative of the season, as the Bulldogs lost, 27-13. Middle right, draw play to Dirk Thomas is diagnosed by Moultrie defense. Seniors: Joe Penone, Glenn Shelby, Bill Watson.
