YESTERYEAR IN KING HIGH In 1906, six years after the turn of the century, two years after Kingsville had been founded, the first school in Kings- ville was established. It was a one room, one teacher school with an initial enrollment of thirteen pupils. The school is pictured in the above photo. Rooms have been added, and the building has been remodeled, but a portion of it is the original school. This building on Alice and Third Streets remained the schoolhouse of Kingsville until the fall of 1910, when a new and larger school took its place. This new school was Henrietta M. King High School. Now, after fifty-four years of occupancy by high school students, this King High will also retire to make room for progress. In the fall of 1963 a new high school will take its place. As we anticipate the years ahead in our new school, many of us will also retain fond memories of the good times, as well as, disappointments experienced in King High. Let's look back into the seeds of time to the beginning of Henrietta M. King High School. 5
