This has been Mr. Paul Jones' second year as Principal of King High, with his duties ever expand- ing to meet the demands of a grow- ing school system. He has tackled his many duties with enthusiasm and has Worked hard to help es- tablish a more complete and effi- cient school system. 5 5 K Mr. Sherman Schroeder, director of attendance, listens patiently each morning to Johnny's and Mary's excuses for yesterday's absence. Mrs. Thelma Peterson, standing, and Mrs. Kathleen Fish, seated, Work together on the many varied projects that become the responsi- bility of the office secretary. At mid-semester Miss Mary Troy, former King High math teacher, became the new Counselor. She pauses here briefly for the photographer.

Administration Mr. John S. Gillett, superintendent of schools, and the Board of Education are vitally important to our school system. The Board consists of the following members: Dr. Chester Dunn, Mr. Gene Rogers, Mr. Bob Hope, Mr. John Gillett, Mrs. T. G. Knight, Mrs. J. C. Jernigan, and lVIr. 'Nick Harrell. They have given of their time, talents, and Wisdom to improve our schools.

The English department trains the student to write correctly and concisely, to increase his vocabulary, to appreciate good literature, and to extend his rec- reational reading. Students are introduced to several types of literature dur- ing their three years of high school English. Included in the selections studied in the sopho- more year are Julius Caesar, Silas Mowner, and The King and I. In the junior year Amer- ican literature is emphasized with contemporary writing and non-fiction articles, and the play t'Our Town is especially enjoyed. Included in senior Eng- lish selections are Macbeth, poetry of Browning and Tenny- son, and Pygmalion Pam Skipper and Can- dy Paulk give their rendition of Gen. Wil- liam Booth Enters Heaven.
