The Brahmas totaled 434 points while their opponents totaled 188. The average points scored during each game were 13 for the opponents and 31 for the Brahmas. Winning twelve out of the fourteen games played, the Brahmas beat four AAAA teams and seven AAA schools. Four of the seven AAA victories were in 15AAA compe- tition and the other three were in State play-offs. The Brahmas met Falfurrias in Javelina Stadium for the 15AAA-16AAA bi-district play-off. Advancing to the Quarter-Finals, the Bulls met Sam Houston High S'chool of San Antonio in Alamo Stadium. By beating Sam Houston, the Brahmas met Cle- burne's Yellow Jackets in Javelina Stadium for the 8AAA through 16AAA berth in the State Finals. Winning over Cleburne. Kingsville's Brahmas traveled 450 miles to Breckenridge for the State AAA Championship. And the attempt for the extra points failed. ' Midway in the second quarter, Tech was penalized to their goal line, and a few plays later John Morgan scored, Harvey ran for the two extra points. And the half ended 14-0 in favor of Kingsville. While the Bulls were held scoreless 1 throughout the remainder of the game, 1 Tech scored in the third quarter for their sole touchdown. KINGSVILLE STOMPS EDINBURG, 36-6 James Pilot led the Brahmas to the third straight victory of the season. in beat- ing Edinburg 36-6 in Kingsville on Sep- tember 26. Pilot opened the scoring in the first quarter when he ran 67 yards and Harvey passed to Houston for a 8-0 lead, and the first half ended as such. Pilot charged for 6 more points as the second half ended and the points for the conversion were good. After the Bobcats scored, Harvey raced 50 yards down field for 6 more points. As the fourth quarter opened '70 yards were quickly covered by scampering James Pilot and Harvey added 2 additional points. In the last 25 second Pilot again crashed left end for 6 yards and the last TD of the game. The Bulldogs came back in the second luarter and scored making the tie 6-6. lut, late in this quarter Doug Harvey dived tver from the one-yard line. In the third quarter, Pilot scored for he Brahmas after recovering a McAllen umble. With one minute left in the game, Pilot added six more points in a 24-yard unket. In the last 55 seconds Jack Burchers grabbed a ball knocked from a McAllen ilayer's arms and carried it 50 yards for he final touchdown of the night. BRAHMAS BRUISED BY ANTLERS Winning four straight games this se son, the Brahmas lost their first game I the year, 50-6 to a high-spirited Kerrvil Antler ball club on October 10 in Kerrvill Kingsvil1e's lone score came after 7-play drive and Bill Whitaker ran ovn from the 12-yard-line early in the fouri quarter. The Brahmas were slowed down by i juries as center Arturo Flores was ol with a broken arm, while Dean Bass, er and Woody Houston, wingback were ol with bruised hips and fullback-quarterbac Doug Harvey was out of action with bruised ankle. BRAHMAS STOMPEDE CAVALIERS The Brahmas notched their fifth vic- tory of the season by roaring over Corpus Christi Academy 44-0. Jean Walshe, James Pilot, Doug Harvey, Jimmy Luker, and tackle Fred Hobrecht scored consecutively for the Bulls. Pilot and Billy Hill were responsible for the extra points, Fine line work was displayed by Jack Burchers, Dean Bass, Stayton Halberdier, and Jack Ramsey. Dean Bass leaps high in the air to bring in I-Iarvey's pass. BRAHMAS BELT SANDCRABS, 46 - 18 KingsviIle's first district win was in Port Lavaca over the Sandcrabs, 46-18. The Sandcrabs opened the game by scoring in the first stanza. But, Doug Harvey drove the ball to the two yard line in the second quarter and on tho next play James Pilot carried it over. Dean Bass received I-Iarvey's pass for nine yards and a second TD. Pilot again converted and the halftime score was 16-6. After Port Lavaca scored two succes- sive times, Jimmy Luker went 54 yards for the Brahmas' final six-pointer. Billy Hill converted running. Kingsville gained 447 yards, compared to 162 for Port Lavaca. Buddy Childs and Jack Burchers were potent in the Brahmas' line. BULLS DOWN TROJANS, 14-6 The path was cleared for the first dis- trict championship in 20 years by edging the Beeville Trojans 14-6 in Javelina Stad- ium on November 7. Led by Harvey and Pilot in a downfield march, Harvey scored from the one yard line for the first TD of the night. Johnson was stopped short on his running attempt for extra points. Taking the Brahma's kickoff seconds before the end of the first quarter, Beeville moved 82 yards in 22 plays to tie the score at six-all. In the waning seconds of the half, Kingsville went to the Trojan eight. be- fore a pass interception stalled the drive. BRAHMAS RUN OVER CUERO, 60-147 CINCH DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP The Kingsville Brahmas clinched the 15-AAA title by tromping the Cuero Gob- blers 60-14, November 14 in Javelina Stadium. Cuero fumbled on the opening kickoff and soon Doug Harvey was diving over from the four-yard line for Kingsville's first score. The extra point quickie pass to end Dean Bass failed. Woody Houston added the next Brahma score on a 62-yard gallop. Pilot's run wide was good for two extra points. Pilot again scored by running 42 yards and Harvey added the points. As the first quarter ended Harvey passed to Houston for 32 yards and a TD. Ramming through the middle Harvey scored for two points and made the score 30-0. During the second quarter Jimmy Luker made the Brahmas' fifth touchdown in an 87-yard run. Cuero marched 65 yard in 10 plays and the half ended 36-8. BRAHMAS SHUTOUT JERSEYS, 26-0 On November 25, the Kingsville Brahmas whipped the Falfurrias Jerseys in the 15AAA-16AAA bi-district game here in Kingsville. The first score of the game came after Harvey's punt to the 8 and Falfurrias miss- ed the center which was recovered in the end-zone for a 2-point safety. From here on to the end of the first quarter Falfurrias threatened to score, but the stalwarts of King High held them. After a run to the Falfurrias 23 by end Dean Bass, Pilot scored from here. Harvey passed to Houston for a lead of 10-0. With only seconds left in the first half, Pilot broke through right tackle for 90 yards and a score. BRAHMAS STOMP FAVOREE CHEROKEES, 35-6 Meeting in the Class AAA State qu ter finals, the Brahmas defeated Sam Ho' ton of San Antonio 34-6 in Alamo Stadiu San Antonio on December 5. After a scoreless first period, the Bu moved 66 yards in seven plays to score. 1 that drive Pilot made two first downs al taking a flat pass from Harvey on the 1 went down the sideline for the T.D. C1 verting, Pilot circled right end. After a Sam Houston fumble, Pi went wide to the right. for 43 yards and 14-point lead, extended by Harvey's p: to Houston for the conversion. Jumping back the Brahmas in- sured their victory with two more touch- downs, one in each of the final periods. Harvey scored from the three for the first of that pair. He again ran over mid- way through the last quarter for the final touchdown. In the final minutes of play the Brahmas second and third teams moved the ball to the Cherokee 20-yard line, further proving Kingsville's strength and depth in personnel. While Pilot and Harvey excelled for the Brahmas, outstanding line play was ex- hibited throughout the entire first unit. Still, such players as Dean Bass, Buddy Childs, and Arturo Flores continued to out- play even themselves. BRAHMAS UPSET CLEBURNE 12-2 On December 13, the Brahmas scored an upset over Cleburne in the State Semi- final Playoff game there in Kingsville. Cleburne moved 39 yards the first time it got the ball, but Woody Houston inter- cepted a pass on the Kingsville 23 to snuff out the drive. After Ronnie Johnson recov' ered a Cleburne fumble, Kingsville smashed 93 yards on 15 plays for a touchdown. Harvey going over from the one, with two and a half minutes gone in the second quarter. Later in the second quarter after a 42 yard drive to the Kingsville one. Cleburne was stopped by the excellent defense on thc part of Jack Ramsey, David Calderonc. and the rest of the Brahma line. A crowd of 7,000, 1200 from Kingsvi jammed into Breckenridge's stadium watch the State AAA Championship ga Breckenridge was led by Pesch, Wil: and Rogers as they beat the Brahmas 42 Two fumbles set up early Breckenri touchdowns, and the score at the end the first half was 0-14. Kingsville scored midway in the sec' period on the 49 yard run by Pilot, Har ran over for the conversion. This total includes a 7-1 record in district competition, a 12-3 record in non-district play, and a 2-1 record in the district play-off. Traveling to Brownsville December 18-19, the Brahmas defeated Carroll and were then edged by Brownsville in the championship game. At the Trojan Cage Classic in Beeville the Brahmas were beaten by Devine after the Bulls had defeated St. Joseph in the opening bracket. Valdemar Delgado, King High's 5'9 guard, was selcted by the coaches of Texas for the A11-State First Team. John Morgan received honorable mention on this same All- State team. Valdemar, John, and Dean Bass were unanimous selctions for the District 15-AAA First Team. The cheerleaders are responsible for the pep rallys, decoration of the goal posts, the ribbons before each game, and many other important func- tions that complete the football season. Their job ha been fulfilled to the uttermost and thej have given many a halftime performanc this year. A Betty True was elected as the firs feature twirler to serve for the band. Alon with Betty, Barbie Roe and Ruanne Turcott filled the senior's vacancies. In addition to Corene. Gwyn Huffma is also a junior and both have another yea of service to render.
