King High School, Kings- ville, Texas, to record some of the memories of the school year 1952-1953. The STAFF wishes to thank all those who made the production of E I.. T ORO possible: the United States Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Kingsville for providing the aerialviews of the campus, the Administration for help and advice, the members of the Faculty for their cooperation especially during the dis- ruption of classes when pictures were made, the StudentCabinetforfinancialaid,RaeburnStudios, Houston for the class and faculty pictures, the Steck Company and Mr, Alexander for their aid in publishing the book, our Sponsor,Mr. Shirley for his constant and tireless efforts, and most of all to the students, forthis is their reco rd, shadows of the past on paper to give tangible evidence that here several hundred individuals have studied, worked, played, and teamed to- gether to make our school one in which we take pride, now and forever. As you turn the pages you will find the various sections represented by... SPORTS VI ,' li , V R T ' 1 ...the athletic program occupies a place of great importance, for it is the embodiment of the spirit that burns brightly in our school, and never brighter than at the Mc Alle n football game where Eladio and Eugene were acting co-captains... ADMINISTRATION lnmm Q- ' Y---V--...--- 'N ?xS1 i' ...first, Mr, Paul Jones writing class permits and tardy permits as so often many of you have seen him first thing in the morning. It is in the office that the adrninistrative p roble m s of keeping the school operating are solved... ORGANIZATIONS my la, ii ...and extracurricular activities do have their place for they keep school from being only work. Here the chorus is singing for the student body during the Thank s giving Day assembly when we gave special Thanks for our way of life... FACULTY CLASSES u l ,fx 4A ...next, representing the faculty is Mrs. Joanna Partain conducting a hornemaking class. This is only one of the many varied subjects that astudent may decide to take. Capable in s t r u c t o r s help prepare us for many different vocations... FEATURES .,' it .y' Q Q xl ...this is the section you probably will wear out, for here you are caught by the candid camera in one of your many school activities as were the members of Miss Clara Bla c k we ll' s speech class during their Education Week broadcast... ,. I Yfvk I fg kbr' 1 .gy - f . .w ,'ar, , . ,.A7 ,V we -4 ,.....z ...although many times extracurricular activities seem to be first in importance, we spend the greatest part of our time in c las s e s learning everything from Agriculture to Zoology in order that we may be fit citizens of our community and country... AUTOGRAPHS , . Q t '...and then you will write all over the pages over which we struggled and almost fought to keep bright and clean as did these students last spring in EL TORO, 1952. We hope you like EL TORO, 1953. Robstown fell first, and then the Brahmas showed they meant business by duxnping GalenaPa.rk of Houston 20-O. This definitely meant something, because the Yellow Jackets hadn't been held scoreless for two previous seasons and their schedule included some of the toughest teams in the state. In District play the strong Brahma team swept aside all opposition until they met McAllen, the favorite for the district crown and the main obstacle between Kingsville I l952 ...4.. Bobby Farrow, Ricardo Villagomez, Ross Malone, Billy Skipworth, jimmy Cauley, jerry Heffington, Lee jones, Head Coach Russ Holland Carlos Lerma, Lauro Lopez, Ramon Ruiz Mgr, Eugene Donaho, Dale Swaim, Tommy Harwood, Manuel Mendieta and the title. In the hard fought struggle that followed the 1952 Brahmas came close to being the first Brahma team to wi n Disuict but were d e fe ated in the final minutes. Although this defeat was hard to take, the Bulls went on to win their last two games to finish with an impressive 8 won 2 loss se ason.
