Mr. H. Frank Carey Dedication A man who serves on a school board must be a truly dedicated man, for there are few more thankless or difficult iobs to be found, and there is no pay. However, a man devoted to his work can find his re- ward simply in doing it. The dedication of this yearbook concerns such a man. For sixteen years H. Frank Carey has served on the school board of Central High School District Number Two-seven of them as its president. In addition he has been a member, and many times president, of Union Free School District Number Seventeen. He has served this body for twenty-five years. The district Mr. Carey has so capably served now includes five new schools. He foresaw the need for these schools, and worked hard to get them, so that the students would have the proper educational facilities. The graduating class of 1958 is aware of the many things this man has done for them, and it seeks to express its appreciation by dedicating this record of our school to its namesake, and in many ways its founder, H. Frank Carey.

Mrs. Edith Hartman Secretary to Mr. Caine Congratulations to the staff of the Log on the publica- tion of H. Frank Carey High School's first yearbook. The Log will serve as a pictorial history of the school, the teachers, the students and the many activities. H. Frank Carey is one of four six-year secondary schools plus Stanforth Junior High and o vocational shop addition to Sewanhaka built during 1955-57 in Central High School District No. 2 at a total cost of Sl5,500,000. Therefore, this new school is one in a family of six secondary schools built to provide the finest of educational opportunities for an ultimate enrollment of more than 12,000 students. The responsibility for operating this system of schools is vested in a School Board by the people of the district. The Principal of the District is the executive officer of the Board. He has the responsibility for developing the educational program, implementing Board policies, selecting administrative and teach- ing personnel, making administrative decisions and carrying out the laws, rules and regulations of the State Education Department. Also, the responsibilities of the district administration in- cludes preparing the budget, managing the schools' business affairs, purchasing school equipment, supplies and books, manage- ment and upkeep of buildings and grounds, operating the lunch- rooms, providing the required bus transportation, and co-ordinating the work of all principals. To assist in carrying out these responsibilities, the Principal of the District has a stat? that includes the Assistant District Principal, a Director of Instruction and Pupil Personnel Services, an Administrative Assistant, Business Manager, Building Superin- tendent, Lunchroom Supervisor, Director of Vocational Education, Director of Adult Education and a Director of Physical Education, Health, Safety and Recreation. This central staff works with nearly 550 teachers, 9,200 students, six buildings and a budget of over 57,000,000 annually. Their every effort is to effect the very best educational program for the youth of this community compatible with Board policies, State lows, and State Education Department regulations. Robert L.
