HISTORY OF THE JUNE SENIOR CLASS The month of June, 1948, sees another class ending its high school days. Plant has given us many wonderful memories to carry with us through life and we sincerely hope that we have served her well. The National Honor Society, the members of which are chosen for scholarship, leadership, character, and service claimed Anne Ansley, Ann Bryan, Andy Duncan, Martha Metz- ger, Laura Mickler, Virginia Milian, Mary Jane Murray, Jeanne Moreau, Regina Waterman, Hilda Parado, Richard Flood, Dominic Roccaforte, Vernon Ellis, Bill Abbott, Caryl Grant, Sylvia Erick- son, Barbara Cross, Janet Kriekbaum, Betty Gregory, Betty Middleton, Jane Freel, Dorothy Bevis, Laeta Went- worth, Susan Pinksto-n, Elmira Vogtman, Marian Connelly, Audrey Doll, Mary Eleanor Tidwell, and Vir- ginia Hawes. During our Senior B term, Bill Abbott and Phil Perkins served as President and Vice- President, respectively, of the student body. Phil pre- sided as president of the Southern Association of Student Governments Convention in Cosrpus Christi, Texas this year. We feel that student government is a very important phase of our education. Those who made all A's and thus became members of the I Dare You Club are: Ann Bryan, Martha Metzger, Jeanne Moreau, Mary Jane Mur- ray, Ann McCranie, Nancy Wilkes, Betty Gregory, Anne Ansley, Susan Pinkston, Laura Mickler, Andy Duncan, Helen Maddox, Laeta Wentworth, and Jane Freel. In the fallof '47, Mary Jane Murray was chosen to edit the Pep O, Plant. Other members of the staff were Jeanne Flynn, Jan Stayer, Mary Jim Pickard, Betty Middleton, Joy Marley, Isabel Lord, and Betty Cobb. Not only did we develop character, but we also leaned toward physical fitness with Walter Con- rad, Bill Abbott, Bob Richardson, Harry Herring- ton, Russell Hartley, John Lynn, Genaro Huerta, Frank Hunt, Bob Hewlett, and Bryce Terrell lead- ing the gridiron list. The following students showed their leadership as they became presidents of various organizations: TOMMY KOULOURIS ----- President VERNON ELLIS ----- Vice-President ANN BRYAN - - - - - - Srfrefury Martha Metzger, president of Thespians and I Dare You, Mary Jane Murray, president of Y-Teens, Phil Perkins and Vernon Ellis, presidents of the Honor Society, Laura Mickler, president of the J.A.C.g Betty Middleton, president of the Literary Club, and David McLean, president of the Camera Club and also president of the Junior Academy of Science, for the State of Florida. One of the outstanding honors a school can bestow upon a student was received by Russell Hartley, when he was appointed Cadbt Lt. Colonel of the R.O.T.C. Entrance in the Gold and Black is made possible by collecting over 400 points gathered through various activities, Andy Duncan, David McLean, Ann Bryan, Phil Perkins, Mary Jane Murray, Paul Game, Nancy Wilkes, Barbara Cross, Laeta Wentworth, Laura Mickler, Audrey Doll, Frances Bixler, Jeanne Moreau, Betty Mid- dleton, ,Martha Metzger, Jim Kennedy, and Helen Holmes are those who earned points for membership. Joan Merrin was appoint- ed director of the new art staff and Virginia Hawes represented the art department on the President's Cabinet. Senior members of the staff are: Rosanne Loy, Pete Roddenberry, Ray Royster, Mary Eleanor Tidwell, Deana Casey, Ora Kate Cannon, Lester Coons, Edith Davis, Betty Jo Batton, Bill Peters, Luke Turbeville, Carol Farie, Mary Jim Pickard, Jean Almond, and June Tisoin. Ann Bryan was chosen to edit our 1948 Panther with the following staff to assist her: Andy Dun- can, Ann Hawkins, Virginia Acheson, Helen Holmes, Bobby Singleton, Regina Waterman, Elmira Vogtmann, Laura Mickler, Marjorie Moritz, Dorothy Bevis, Trula Stevens, Walter Whitehead, Bob Hewlett, Libby Cloeman, Suzanne Lowry, Paul Game, Jean Lewis, Laeta Wentworth, Russell Hartley, Audrey Anderson, Barbara Cross, Ann Hunnicut, and Helen Maddox. Our high school days at Plant are now con- cluded and we realize that our affection for her will always be great. We look into the future, feeling better equipped to meet it because we have been students here. We will always carry a part of her in our hearts, earnestly hoping that she will carry our memory in hers. -'SIISIYF
