HISTORY OF THE JANUARY SENIOR CLASS The time has come to bid our school a fond farewell. As we members of the graduating class of 1948 stand at the parting of our ways, we stop to take one last look at the path we have so proudly trod together. In the dim distance we see ourselves as we walked for the first time through the halls of Plant as midgets in a world of intellectual giants. We see ourselves as hideous little girls--with stringy hair, pale cheeks, and colorless lips, followed by bashful boys with flying shirts and close cropped hair! We were truly at the mercy of the sophisticated upper class- men, who required that we learn the rules and regula- tions, which Plant students hold so dear. We watch ourselves as gradually recov- ering from our total be- wilderment, we take our places in the academic, ath- letic, and social activities of our school. Some of our suc- cess seems to have resulted from our choice of officers, for in Home Room 107, Doyle Waldrop was chosen as President, Catherine O'Terra, Vice-President, and Betty Phillips as Treasurer, while in Room 105, Grace Benham, Tom Allen and Marjorie Bourne filled these ofhces. And now we catch a nearer view of ourselves as we seem to be sitting on top of the world, no longer little Sophomores, but strutting Juniors, masters of such things as home work, exams and admit slips, taking active part in Assembly pro- grams as well as lunch room capers. The thrills of our first season of football are well worth the ruined throats, which are beginning to recover when again we lose our voices at the basketball games. However, this does not prevent us from passing our final exams and we gladly leave our Junior year. Is it possible that we have become dignified WALTER BALDWIN ----- President TRULA STEVENS ---- Virf'-President MARJORIE BOURNE ----- Set'l't'tdry Seniors? Here we are and justly proud of our at- tainments. Since home rooms 107 and 105 have joined together as one large graduating class in room 102, we have loads of fun with Walter Baldwin as President, Trula Stevens, Vice-President and Marjorie Bourne, Secretary. From our numbers have been chosen worthy members of the many extra curricular activities to be found on the campus. We are ably represented in the Student's Council, President's Cabinet, National Honor Society, The Order of the Gold and Black, I Dare You, Thespians, Key Club, Letterman's Club, G.O.C., Kiwanettes, Youth for Christ, the Camera' and the Science Clubs. We have important positions on the staffs of the Pep O' Plant, our school paper, and the Panther, our annual. Each year our class has chosen maids, courtiers and court witnesses, and this year Grace Benham, Walter Baldwin, Marjorie Bourne and Tom Allen graced the Royal Court of Pantherilla. Walter Whitehead and Wal- ter Baldwin were our ath- letic stars and led us to many victories. Tom Allen was elected to represent the school as Junior Ro- tarian, Earl Smith was chosen Junior Lion, while George Menendez and Marjorie Bourne have served well as Cheerleaders. Our R.O.T.C. officers were Tom Allen, Howard Levester, George Galvin, Bobby Carastro and George Menendez. Marjo-rie Bourne and Grace Benham were chosen as their sponsors. Bobby Gonzalez and Florine Fleishman represented us in the Band. And now our final backward look has been taken, and with hearts filled with affection for our faculty and for our other friends-whom we leave behind, we say Farewell, and proudly take our places among the Alumni of Plant High School. 4Efl2,5
