E Q P gsfig. . ,. ,l +V Q. g s ,.,s' ,t .,- FRANK MIRABELLA Presidrm' PEGGY DECKARD Secretary BETTY JANE BRowNsEY Vice President CLASS HISTORY Plant High, here we come! That was our attitude the first day we stormed the portals of old Henry B. Plant. We had waited a long time for this day and we were ready for it. First semester in Plant passed quickly. With great hubbub and enthusiasm we sent Helen Coggin and Billy Lowry to the Court of Pantherilla and picked as our president, Bobby Frank. We elected Billy Lowry as his understudy, and Helen Coggin as his minute taker. Football began our first semester . . . then basketball and oh . . . we were well represented in all of these. We sent Helen Coggin to Pantherilla again and as her escort we chose Billy Wynne. Next we elected Joyce Beard as our class head. We thought Jimmy Baughman would do the job well as vice- president and jane Linker would make a good secretary. Like we say we were doing all right in football and such with Ed Robinson managing the team for the boys. Now we are honest-to-goodness Senior A's--no foolishness about us-at least that's what we told ourselves. Come to think of it, we WERE a nice class and very busy. Why we had a finger or two in every student activity pie around Henry B. There just wasn't a thing we didn't have some say about. Olive Beryl Kitchen was Editor of the Pep O' Plant. Gloria Rosen, Peggy Deckard, Ralph Millsap, Irma Perryn, Alma Driskell, and Jacquelyn Davis all assisted her on the staff. In student politics you found us too. Helen Coggin was vice-president of the Student Council. On the President's Cabinet were Billy Belle, George Burke, Barbara Fennel, Bobby Frank, Olive Beryl Kitchen, Irma Perry with Bobby Bryant as our president. We had our share of intellectuals, toog Irma Perryn, Pearl Taake, Olive Beryl Kitchen, Betty Jane Brownsey, Dor- othy Cahoon, Sarah Boswell, Helen Coggin, Peggy Deckard, joe Mesada, and Bobby Frank were members of the National Honor Society. Helen was January editor of the annual. Bobby Frank received the Junior Rotarian Award and Olive Beryl was awarded the Kiwanette medal for the outstanding graduating member in the Kiwanette Club. We took time out from all these activities to elect Bobby Frank as our president, Pearle Taake, vice-president and Olive Beryl, secretary. We were still doing all right in sports, too. Ralph Millsap had been elected Captain, with jimmy Baughman as his alter- nate. Billy Belle, George Burke, and Howard Cannon were our football heroes and they did a good job. johnny Gantt was still steppin' high during the half, and this year we were enjoying the struttin' of Betty Jane Brownsey and Jacquelyn Davis, our two cute drum majorettes. Burke and Millsap were making points on the basketball team and Burke, with another member of our class, jimmy Powell was burning up the ground in track. To our last Pantherilla we sent Helen Coggin and Billy Wynne, a nice choice even if we do say so ourselves. The war clouds were gathering thick and fast . . . boys like Billy Belle, Joe Mesada, and Johnny Gantt who had made such good oflicers in the R.O.T.C. were thinking about join- ing up before the eighteen year old draft got them. Before we knew it King Albus, Raymond Cigarran, Emory Don- aldson, Johnny Gantt, Jack McLendon, jimmy Powell, Dennis Rawls, Ed Robinson, Fred Sauls, and Dan Walker were all in the service and school was getting mighty lonely without them. The war clouds have gathered thickly now. They're rather apt to make us unaccustomedly sober. But we're not worried . . . not us. Up to now we've been uncertain as to our careers . . . but not any more. We ve done a lot of looking into the future . . . and what do we see? That's easy . . . a bright new tomorrow for America. How do we know? That's easy, too. It's OUR tomorrow and we've decided to make it bright. That's the career we've chosen. It's our job . . . the one we know now we were born for . . . this january Class of 1943 . . . so we'll just say . . . so long, until TOMORROW.
