It's with satisfacti that we look back over our three year stay at Plant. We worked a little, we played a little in one big effort to uphold Plantfs previous standards. We came with the attitude of puttin' into it all we had an' gettin' out of it a little knowledge, a little fun, an' lots of friends. In these three things we have achieved success. It all started back in September 1939. On our first day we felt pretty little an' unimportant in those huge halls but after a week or two we real- ized we were a part of this wonderful school an, that we should enter into all the school activities. To our first Pantherilla court we sent Dottie Sue Caldwell an' Harold Williams as sixth maid an, courtier. Always out for the unusual we elected co- presidents for our class officers because we jest couldn't decide be- tween Harold Williams an, Richard Farrior. 's ,- TUNE CLASS HISTORY Twenty-four members more of our class were taken into the Honor Society when they were seniors bringin, the total up to thirty-seven. The remainin' ones are: Billy Frank, Edgar Vaughan, Jean Ellis, Edith Winn, Peggy Kay, Marquerite Chery, Nonita Cuesta, June Beasley, Sara Bur- nett, Bonnie Hunt, Robert Bryan, Richard Far- rior, Sam Horne, Billy Hopkins, Bobby Poage, Emma Mae Murray, Tom Schaub, Sophia Moutos, Jo Patten, Lola Nathan, Nan Shackleford, Jean Stearns, Catherine Boling, Carroll Cone, an, Bob Setzer. Our football heroes are: Billy Pemberton, Clyde Rights, King Kendrick, Billy Jim Bryant, Fred Johnston, David McCormick, Beda Angle, Richard Farrior, Ralph Millsap, Deak Price, Tommy Schaub, Rob- ert Bryan, Tommy Cwhormley, Fred Mar- tin, an, Howard Can- non. Ed Robinson was We chose Barbara Mel- vin as vice-president, an' Jean Stearns as sec- 'etary. An' so a year rolled by. When we became juniors we thought we knew just about ever,- thing, that is, until the seniors would politely put us in our place but at least we weren't the underdogs any more. To add a little variety we chose June Beasley an, Richard Farrior to repre- sent us in Pantherilla XIII. We also elected as class officers Harold Williams, president, Ralph Mill- sap, vice-president, an' Jean Stearns, sec, etary. When we were Junior A's thirteen of our class- mates were tapped into the Honor Society. These were: Betty Ann Taylor, Mary Stallings, Mary Wallace, Ryan Wood, Leo Weiss, Maxwell Cob- bey, Karl Chambers, Dottie Sue Caldwell, Eliza- beth Marshall, Gene Alexander, Betty Jo Adair, Norman Allen, an, Rebekah Yates. All too quickly another year has come and gone. We are the high and mighty seniors now- big brothers an' sisters to our sophomore an, junior friends. We elected Dottie Sue Caldwell Queen of Pan- therilla an' King Kendrick as King. For the sec- ond June Beasley and Richard Farrior were chosen as maid an' courtier. Sisfxrign: Sarah Burnett. Siixxmx Clyde Rights, Virginia Stafford, john Paul jones, Mary Stallings, Bobby Poage, Albert McNab. manager in 1940. The K outstandin' basketball A players are: Billy Pem- berton, David McCor- mick, John Paul Jones, Bobby Poage, Ralph Millsap, Deak Price, an, Bunny Mick. Rich- ard Farrior was man- ager in 1939 an' 1940. Carson McNab was manager in 1941. Our four cheerleaders are: Reid McMasters, June Beasley, Herbert Livingston, an' Egizio Zacchini. The Annual Staff made up of Senior Ais was an- nounced by Mr. Peters as: Betty Ann Taylor, editor-in-chief, Norman Allen, associate editor, Mary Wallace, assistant editor, Richard Farrior, business manager, Billy Hopkins, assistant busi- ness manager, Dottie Sue Caldwell, historian, Carson McNab, boys' sports editor, Catherine Boling, girls, sports editor, Billy Black, snapshot editor, Nonita Cuesta, assistant snapshot editor, Roy Crowder, art editor, Doris McLeod, assist- ant art editor, Christine Kavakos, head typist, an' Lorraine Davis an' Elizabeth Marshall, assistant typists. The Pep O'Plant staff is composed large- ly of Senior A,s. The record of our days at Plant is now closed. We hate to think of leaving-we,ve had so much fun. We'll always cherish these memories of our high school days. 26
