The general theme for our annual this year is the , Q I Loyalty of the South to the United States. We have many reasons to be proud of the contributions of southerners to the cultural, economic, and political 5 Q ff X' . . . V. life of our country. We recall with pride the accom- plishments of our men in times of war in all branches of our armed services. Wliile the southern man in the ranks has always been noted for his remarkable cour- age, we also have as part of our great heritage the rec- ords of their remarkable leadership. In this perilous time our hopes have been aroused and our patriotism gratihed by the glorious example of Florida's illus- trious heroes. Our loyalty to our country will be I forever a contributing factor in the preservation of the ideals of the United States. C. Dl'f.Rl-li A.B., M.A. Nature has been lavish in her kindness to the South, but we know that it takes more than the natural sunny climate and rich soil to produce here ll vegetation of which we can boast. ln like manner, your social, edu- cational, and democratic opportunities have been abundant and free, and it is equally necessary for you to exert eager hands and earnest hearts to make the most of all your opportunities if you are to be the type of citizen which is needed. It is your privilege and duty to learn now to do willingly and efficiently some type of worthwhile work. Make each day's ex- periences and opportunities serve you in your growth mentally, morally, physically, and spiritually remem- bering that successful growth will not be attained without conscious continued effort on your part.
