PANTHER Art Christy Albert Woodburn Mary French Dekle President Vice President Secretary IANUARY CLASS HISTORY ln january 1937, we entered Plant High School as a bewildered group of Soph- omores. Soon, however, we became accustomed to the big school and joined enthusiastically into all its ac- tivities. As our first class officers we chose Ethlyn Coggin, president, Nell Brownlee, vice president, and Virginia Ne Smith, secretary. That year Kather- ine Hudson and Bob johnston repre- sented our class in the Court of Pan- therilla. ln our junior year we elected Bob Iohnston as president, Charles Harper, vice president, and Art Christy as sec- retary of our class. This time Katherine Hudson and Art Christy graced the Court of Pantherilla as fourth maid and courtier. ln our Senior year we elected Charlie Davis as president, Art Christy as vice president, and Mary French Dekle, sec- retary. Mary French and Art were also our representatives as second maid and courtier in the Pantherilla Court. Our Class of january 1940 has fur- nished some of the most outstanding students that Plant has ever graduated. Playing their last season on the Panther Eleven were: Charlie Davis, Captain, Gus Koulouris, Alternate Captain, and Charles Berry, Art Christy, john Flan- ders, Edwin Ericson, C. L. Hennis, Bill Bamage, and Sammy White. Our Bas- ketball stars were Charles Berry, Art Christy and Henry Fontanills. For the Student Council, we elected Charlie Davis, president, Bill Bamage, vice president, while Art Christy, Eth- lyn Coggin, Mary French Dekle, jean Pryor, and Albert Woodburn served as members of the President's Cabinet. Our members who served on the Pep O' Plant Staff were: Margaret Chandler, Clifton Curry, Lillian joughin, and Rob- ert Tuck. The outstanding journalists of our class, Margaret Chandler, Lillian joughin and Lula joughin, were chosen as members of the Quill and Scroll. Three of our number were elected as junior members of the various out- standing civic clubs. These were: lean Pryor, Pilot Club, Albert Woodburn, Botarian, and Bob Iohnston, Kiwanian. The following members were officers in the R.O.'T.C.: George Yates, Major, Mac Ford, Sergeant Major, and Albert Woodburn, Lieutenant. The upper fifteen per cent of our class who were chosen as members of the National Honor Society were: Ethlyn Coggin, Mary French Dekle, Emily Ful- ler, Comolia Gonzalez, Lillian Ioughin, Lula Ioughin, Bob Iohnston and Robert Tuck. Bob served as president of the Honor Society this semester. The years which we have spent in Plant have now become history which we shall always remember with pleas- ure. lt is with a feeling of regret that We leave Plant's halls to make further history in the years that now lie ahead.
