In the1r Junxor year here the Class of '54 sponsored the Val entxne Dance Some of the members of the1r class had the honor of bemg tapped th1s year as members of the Nat1onal Honor So c1ety Others were as Iprophesxed members ofmy vars1ty squads Now the class began maklng plans for the1r sen1or year wh1ch would soon become a real1ty Th1s fall the class of '54 passed thru my doors as semors Busy semors too The class play the mus1cal comedy Meet Me In St Lou1s whlch they gave 1n December wasa smashh1t Try outs for the play worn play books make up rehearsals lost cats all these th1ngs added up to the b1ggest and best sen1or play s1nce I was bu1lt Senlor pzctures yearbook deadlxnes graduatlon plans and the sen1or tr1p were some of the1r many aCt1V1t1CS thls year In May a large group of the senlorswent to New York for the1r class tr1p Judgmg from the exc1ted chatter and d1scuss1on I overheard when they returned they had a memorable tr1p Fmally came the most 1mportant n1ght of the1r h1gh school l1ves Graduatlon Nlght All the worrxes problems hopes and dreams of the1r years here w1th me faded from the1r m1nds as they arched up the a1sle to the stra1ns of Pomp and Clrcumstance L1sten1ng to the student speakers the awards whlch the sen 1ors won and seemg them rece1ve the1r d1plomas I'm sure the1r l1fe endeavors w1ll be as successful as the1r years w1th me I'm r1ght sorry to see them leave I've shared the1r l1ves w1th them for f1ve years and we've become good fr1ends Heavens here I' ve been rem1n1sc1ng almost all nlght and school tomorrow too' Guess I'll have to get my 'forty w1nks before my other students come dashmg 1n tomorrow mornlng Thanks for l1s en1ng to me Good nlght ' 11 0 , - ' 11 ' ' - - 1 3 ' 1 . , . s - 9 I , , I - . 9 s . 1 . , . -- . , , . . . Well 1ts pretty lonesome around here now All the peopl have gone 'cept maybe Herb and Henry and soon they'll be lock1ng me up for the mght Just another graduat1onto most folks Iguess But not to those happy graduates' Class of '54 they were That's one class I'll sure remember' Now when they f1rst came up here from Brandywme and Baden 1n '48 they were m1ghty t1m1d l1ttle k1ds Ican tell you that' I re member how they gathered 1n httle groups before mormng class bells rang and talked about me How they l1ked my gym and the cafeter1a and my l1brary w1th those seem1ngly endless rows of books' Yes mdeed from one end of my halls to the other they were certa1nly proud of me And I was proud of them' Dur1ng the1r f1rst year here they presented two plays 1n the .Tumor H1gh Play Contest Leave It to Sweeney and Gett1 g Grac1e Graduated Both plays were m1ghty f1ne and Leave It to Sweeney won f1rst pr1ze The next fall most of em were back aga1n Th1s t1me they greeted me as a frlend not as an omnlous stranger ln the play the L1ttle Red Schoolhouse To prove the fact that they were g od students many of them rece1ved the honor ofbe1ng tapped as members of the Jun1or Honor Soclety They were very good 1n sports too and prom1sed to become members of all my vars1ty teams 1n t1me Then came the fall of '50 and th1s tlme the Class of'54 entered my doors as h1gh school freshmen Awfully proud of the1r new status Ican tell you that' Thzs year they were el1g1ble for the Sen1or Hlgh Play Contest And were they EXC1ted' The1r entry was an enterta1n1ngplay Overn1ght Guests that almost coped f1rst pr1ze Well Sept '51 rolled around and as sophomores the Class of '54 cont1nued the1r l1fe here w1th me One of the1r ma1n projects th1s year was the Annual Harvest Dance wh1ch was ab1g success The play contest was d1scont1nued th1s year They also gave the trad1t1ona1 senlor receptlon on Graduat1onN1ght Th1s was avery f1ne affa1r bel1eve me 10 , ' . e D ! u 9 u . , .
