His passing on came as grief to all. He had worked and striven along with the rest of us and his friendliness gave cause for us to miss him greatly. ELIZABETH LETCHER CAFETERIA MANAGER Herb Pinkney Henry Pinkney 6 ching ln September, 1947, seventy-five wide-eyed students fumbled around the classrooms of Gwynn Park High School, meeting new friends from Baden and Brandywine Elementary Schools. We were thrilled at the ex- pectation of spending six wonderful years at the relatively new school. During this first year we presented to the school three plays: The King's Big Toe , The Patch-Work Quilt , and Billy's First Date which left them all laughing and very much impressed. When the next year rolled around, we were all proud to find that we had advanced to the eighth grade. This was the year that we welcomed Melvin Gotshall to our Class. The next year we were freshmen. This was the year we decided which courses we would follow during the next four years of high school. This was the year we made our first entry into the Senior High Play Contestg we presented Mother Walks Out . During this year we welcomed Martha Ingle and Doyle Funkhouser who proved to be assets to our class. In our sophomore year we undertook the project of putting on the Harvest Dance, which has become an annual affair for the sophomore class. As the end of the year was drawing near, we gave the graduation reception in honor of the Seniors. , One section of our class. 1947 8 'r 1 r 21' ,! O' x 41- . if 7 .' I P' J' . This was the year in which we sponsored the annual Valentine Dance, and we also gave the Junior-Senior Prom in honor of the graduating class. This was the first time we had ever presented a hillbilly play, It's Cold in Them Thar Hills . We finally reached our senior year and began to think seriously of our future careers. In this year we welcomed two new members to our class, Betty Jean Burroughs from Brazil and Jackie Kornhauser from Hawaii. After much hard work, days and nights after school, we presented to the public our first three-act play, which was at one time a very well- known movie, Mother Was a Freshman . In the meantime we were very busy with the publication of our yearbook. - During our last few weeks of school we prepared for our graduation which took place in June. Now we have all taken different paths in life, but we shall always carry with us the memories of good times of our days spent at Gwynn Park. 9 WILLIAM BRAMELL Shop 1,2g Hi-Y 3,4g Field Meet 2, 43 Basketball 2,3,4: Class Play 2. Bill Bramell, owner of Atomic Airlines, with the help of Pat and Jackie, the Singing and Dancing Stewardesses, brought Senator Mac and his wife the former Mary Dillon here in record time. His secretaries Elvis Shipp and Joyce Moore returned from an im- portant trip to Hawaii. Honest Hambone Meinhardt, garage owner and used car dealer, arrived with Law- rence Duley, his demonstrator, in one of his special cars, the Rocket Age Hot-Rod. Among the next arrivals were Joe Summers, owner of the Easy-Does-It Farm and his farm managers, Ervin Petrie and J. B. Tayman. Russell Watson, Ernie Riess, Jackie Pir- ner and Charles Miller are raising prize HO-OGS on a new type of farm plan they have been working on for several years. Russel1's farm down by the Patuxent River is the scene of the experiment. Harvey Schwien, the owner of a modern service station on the super highway going south, came to the gathering in a new Owner's Delight, a car which he designed him- self. WAVES Phyllis Holt and Doris Pennington have just rushed in after receiving special permission for leave from Admiral Early at the Pentagon. Francis Thompson and Al Mudd, the super salesman of Wayne Bull's new invention Slickem-Down Hair Tonic, have just come in with free samples for all of their friends. Daphene Tippett, Editor-in-Chief of Cosmo Magazine, came in late after sending the next issue to press. She was accompanied by some members of her staff, Betty Jean Burroughs, Assistant Editor, Annie Richards, Fashion Editor, Mary Richards, News Ed- itor, and Evelyn Scheidegger, Art Editor. They were followed by Isabel Thomas and Martha Ingle, who are models in New York City. The sponsors of our class in 1953, Mrs. Erma Dyson and Mr. Louis Miller, were able to leave their important positions to be present this evening. Mrs. Dyson is the Head Librarian at the Library of Congress, and Mr. Miller is a Professor of English at the Naval Academy. Margaret C Mrs. Mikey, president of the National Housewives League, and her personal secretary, Ruby Young, flew back from Denver on one of the Atomic Airliners after at- tending a convention there. Donald Williams, millionaire playboy, flew his own stunt plane which he landed near the hotel. By the way, most of the dazzling hairdos worn by the women were done by Genevieve Robey and her assistants, Helen Finch and Nettie Mclnturff at the Style Rite Beauty Salon. Rosalie Smith is the Secretary at Genevieve's fashionable beauty salon. Well, folks! That is all the news at this reunion. Ten years from now, in 1973, we may have even greater news for you! Until then, good-by all. 24 Q E Mm 1 25 - ' W 4' 7 fmr' A 'As I 0' . , 167' V! KC: N 'Jw I 0 wr . f .
