In the following pages we’ve tried to show some of those changes — in clothing styles, hairstyles, and all our possessions But despite all those changes we’ll go through in our years at GHS, one thing remains constant, that inner kernel of thoughts that are just you! 3 I'd rather be a guy in jeans than m a suit and shirt I d rather be a girl in pants than nylons and a skirt I'd rather farm than live where the earth is scarce and the plants are few I'd rather wear a sneaker than a shoe 5 6 Trip Dancing to the music a trip to the bathroom. Mike Forgette is proud of his hard working team Our major goal, says Forgette, was to play rug- ged defense The team's success in doing this was reflected by their being in the top three schools in total defense in the UP and in learning to believe in themselves as a team '’ Lori Hollowell was voted MVP for the season. Letter winners returning from the Class B champion team included Swen Aho and Joe Macario. Chuck Gendron and Dave St. Andre moved up to join the varsity ranks. The Modeltowners got off to a slow start in the season with two losses against Iron Mountain and Manistique. Swen Aho led with 18 points in the third game of the season, a narrow 51-50 victory over Gladstone's Braves. A winning game against Negaunee's Miners was followed by a loss to top-seated Westwood. This seesaw pattern repeated itself as the Modeltowners crushed Norway and then fell to Munising, suffered another loss to the Marquette Redmen and then beat Ishpeming. Joe Macario led the scoring effort against the Hematites with 28 points, a career high. Junior Chuck Gendron led with a strong 24 points in the winning match against Menominee Halfway through the season, the Modeltowners record stood at 5 and 5. The homecoming game saw Gwinn pitted against the Manistique Emeralds. The Modeltowners played a strong game in this rematch and kept the score close throughout the four quarters of play. In the final 5 seconds the teams were tied and the Emer- alds missed their shot with no time left on the clock. An unfortunate foul called on Dave St. Andre gave the Emeralds a free throw attempt and the winning point. A series of losses followed this game until the Modeltowners turned themselves around and scored a decisive victory against Marquette. Dave St. Andre, Joe Macario, Dennis Syrja, and Chuck Gendron proved the impetus for the victory. Another win against Munising put the team’s record at 8-11 with one game left to play against Ishpeming at the time this story went to print. in Junior Varsity Basketball Members of the J V Basketball Team included, front row. left to right Mike Frassetto.
