Our Superintendent Says... In extending congratulations to the members of this class, may I impress upon you the potential you possess as an adult citizen. You are important to this community, for you are a product of the community. You are impor- tant to the school of this community, for you represent what can be accomplished for the children of this com- munity by preparation in living through education. You are important to yourselves, for you hold within your- selves the key to your future living. You have a mission in the future. What you do or what you do not do may determine the course of history. Whatever you do, be a credit to yourselves and the institution from which you graduated. William G. For the outstanding service they have given to our school and community, we, respectfully dedicate this annual to Mr. and Mrs. George D. Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was superintendent of Forsyth Township Schools for eight years. During his adminstration our school was first accredited by the North Central Association and school children from Austin and Little Lake were brought to Gwinn. Until his retirement in 1952, he served as regional director of the State Department of Public Instruction. He is a member of the State and National Educational Associations and was the first president of the county district. He also is a member of Phi-Delta-Kappa, a national educational honorary society. He has taken an active part in community affairs serving in Community Council, Lions Club, American Legion, Sports- men, County Board of Education, and is a member of First Methodist Church. Mrs. Gilbert has been active in the 4-H Club, First Meth- odist Church, where she is superintendent of the Sunday School, and is a charter member of the Womens' Study Club. 5

MR. HEMMILA During his first year in Gwinn, Mr. Hemmila has acquired many new friends. In addition to his duties as principal, he conducts a conservation club, a safety patrol, and is manager at basketball games. Your graduation from high school Is merely a step up the ladder to success, so do not stop there; but continue your progress in whatever you endeavor to do. Never let the trials of life defeat you but consider them as a challenge and have faith in your abilities. Mr. Hemmila, Principal MR. WILLS Directing the senior play and acting as Senior Class advisor, Mr. Wills also wcrks at the table at basketball games. A jack of trades, need we say more? Working with you as your advisor this past year has been a happy experience for me. As your advisor, I would like to leave the final thought with you. Remember, that it is not always a question of how much you know but rather what use you make of your knowledge. Your place in life won't be decided by what you have acquired or how well you have trained but by what you are and what you actually do.
