Mrs. Haynes graduated from N.M.C.E. in 1938, with a B. S. degree. She has been teaching at Gwinn High School for fourteen years, and has been the head of the commercial department for the past ten years. During that time she has gained the admiration and respect of all her students. 3 LEFT TO RIGHT: W. G. Garrett, Superintendent; E. Hendrickson, President; J. Anderson, Secretary; M. Four years had elapsed since they had entered high school, in September of 1952. Many exciting things have happened to this class since that date. As Freshmen, we started with a class of forty-one. We gave a dance, and pep meetings for the high school. The highlight of the year was sponsoring the Second Annual Fish Derby under the direction of Mr. Kela. We were green, but still growing, when we reached our Sophomore year. Our chief contributions toward entertainment for the year were the giving of the annual Halloween Dance, and pep meetings. As Juniors, people started to notice the talent in our class. Our Junior Class play, “No More Homework,” directed by Mrs. Flaherty, was certainly enjoyed by all. With the money the play brought in, $224.75, we were able to present the prom, “Stairway to the Stars.” Stars, roses, and stairways were used as decorations. Music was furnished by Ivan Kobasic’s orchestra from Escanaba. Several members of our class are on the basketball team, namely: Tony Voegtline, Barry Mussatto, James Copley, and Jack Ghiardi. Eight members of our class also play in the band. Now that 1955 has finally arrived, we Seniors have been kept quite busy. In the fall we gave a dance to initiate the Freshmen. We wonder if they will ever forgive us for all the mistreatment we gave them. In November, we gave our Senior Class play, “Fog Island,” under the direction of Mr. Wills. It turned out to be quite a success also. Since then, we have chosen our class motto, colors, and received our class rings. We had our pictures taken in January, and everyone was all hepped up wondering if they would turn out or not. Ten members of our class were inducted into the National Honor Society. They were Karen Latola, James Copley, Nelda Paquette, Robert Schoen, Rose Roberts, Tony Voegtline, Hazel Sharkey, Jeanette Noel, Tina Mohn, and Richard Doyen. It wasn’t too long before graduation day started approaching. Among the excite- ment and anxiety of it all, we had a feeling of loss. Besides leaving many of our friends, we are taking a big step into the future, one which many of us don’t know just where it will lead. But no matter what, the memories of our high school days will never be forgotten. Sponsored By MARQUETTE EOTTLING WORKS, Marquette SCHOCHand HALLAM.
