Into his hands are placed the tools he will need, hut he alone must choose the blueprint which will determine the finished structure. Some men seek adventure. They huild ships with the capacity to sail to new worlds, new experiences, new horizons. Others seek security. They build homes and hospitals, schools and businesses. Some seek peace. They build churches and cathedrals. Their lasting contributions stand for future generations to admire', challenges to fire the imaginations of new builders. building begins early. From the time man can think, he begins to build the life he seeks. Education adds tools and materials to his workshop. I hroughout this school year each of the 950 students builds. Every day each one picks up hammer and nails, level and plane, and puts his hand to the task. The pages of this yearbook present pictures of well-constructed lives, fulfilled dreams, accomplished performances. It is, collectively, a monument of memories built lovingly to celebrate a year which salutes every man's vocation: A Call to build. r The Vocational Carpentry class begins construction on their carpentry house early in the Appropriate eyewear is important for safety in Vocational Welding. There was tremendous school spirit shown at each pep rally, and the hand did a super job at each game. Homecoming added to the fun as students participated in Spirit Week and the Hall Decorating Contest. The football team rallied from a 21 point deficit to finish just 2 points shy of the win. School dances, Fun Festival, and , talent shows were just a few things that filled the year. Football was not the only sport that shined with Tiger Pride; basketball, golf track, and weightlifting proved that Guymon High School has many gifted athletes. Together we made unforgettable memories. Together we built the perfect student life. Ready for action, Charlie Mallard Our Ramho, Alvin Madrid, takes a day off from bis “grueling” schedule, “wears his sunglasses at night. “ The sophomore class decorated the commons area for Homecoming Week. Senior James Mussman shows his Tiger Spirit on “Hat day. 8 “We Will Be Invincible The theme for homecoming built pride and spirit in the school, and was the basis for all of the activities throughout Homecoming Week. Homecoming Week was five days of challenging contests, long hours of work, and class competition that ended in everyone being united on Friday night to cheer on the team in an exciting game against the Dumas Demons. The week started on Monday with Hat, Sock, and Pin” day, and the saying for the day was, Show the Demons that the Tigers are tops by wearing your favorite hats, buttons, and socks.” Let's show the Tigers that we have spirit by coming as you are and we will give the Demons a jar was the saying for Tuesday. Many students did come as they were and showed the school what they really looked like! Wednesday was Occupational” day. Many students dressed as the occupation they already had, and some dressed as the occupation that they planned on having. Be a lawyer, be a cop, and watch the mighty Tigers come out on top ,” was the saying for Wednesday. On Thurs- day, the students were told to Wear it wrong or wear it right and go Tigers Fight, Fight, Fight!” Most chose to wear it wrong — as in backwards. Friday finally came, and Tiger fans wore black and orange to show their spirit. At the pep rally on Friday, Brenda (Jnruh was named the Homecoming Queen for the year. Brenda had excellent competition from Jennifer Hepner, Annette Garcia, Kristi Campbell, and Leslie Hyer. The queens were escorted by Sean Cox, Mark Duffy, Reese Wolgamott, Darren Ingram, and Craig Riff el, respectively. The Spirit Stick went to the Senior Class, who won the hall decorating contest and had the most participation during the week. The door decorating contest was won by Mr. Wilgus' second hour Zoology class. Each member of that class received a Tiger hat. The game Fri- day night was a rough one, and our guys rallied in the closing moments to finish just two points short of the win. We had a lot of fun that night, and many memories were made. In Guymon High's own special way, we proved that we were invincible. Things were hot as the Tiger team and fans gathered to rally the night before the big Homecoming Game against Dumas. 1985 Homecoming Queens are Kristi Campbell. Golf Leslie Hyer. Although students were often late to class, a special effort was made to attend each organizational meeting. Fund raisers and other service pro- jects provided the opportunity for many fun trips. Student Council paved the way for dances, films, and keeping the student body updated on current events. Long after all the other students have gone for the day, these dedicated people can he found practicing tirelessly in the pit area. After they finish the gruelling practice sessions, they have to make signs and decorate lockers. Their hard work and dedication are examples for everyone to follow. And this my friends is definitely the Latest! Basketball was Our thing, And with us we certainly did bring — The talent that it takes. Of taking advantage of the breaks. The Gym held us within its hands, Teaching us the ways and its demands. How much of life we've learned these years! To say much more would surely bring tears. Through thick-n-thin, we pulled through Doing the work we needed to do. Giving each other a helping hand. To make things easier to comprehend. We “Tigerettes were of a different race. The breed going for the kill as well as the chase. We knew where we wanted to go. And now hold secrets that others may never know. The time seemed eternal at the first. And now for more we hunger and thirst! To hear the crowd cheer our names. As we put the opponent to shame. We spent our time as best we could. Togo back — we probably would. But the cycle of life we can't choose, For time — unfortunately — can never lose! So to the 'Years’ now below us, Take advantage while you can. Because nothing lasts forever And all Too soon —you'll understand! And now — we Seniors must hid adieu — To search for something alive and new. Ward Typing, Coach 87 The Support Faculty of Guymott Public Schools played a vital part in each school day. The custodians main- tained a clean environment and at- mosphere for the students and teachers. They spent many long hours before and after the school day, and after each extracurricular activity, returning the facilities to proper stan- dards. The maintenance crew kept everything in working order, and were on the alert to catch malfunctions before they could occur. Whenever anything did break down, the maintenance men were quick to repair it. The food service personnel prepared nutritious meals daily for the students and faculty, as well as for the many banquets and dinners held at the school. The students and faculty recognized the hard work of those who made up the support faculty, and also their contribution to building a good school year. And the last note of music's been played When the caps andgouns are folded au ay. And the fond farewells hate been made; When this year's Senior Class is part of the past. Which '86 characteristics will last? Which triumphs remain from the fabulous cast Who were masters of all they surveyed? One legacy sweet is a spirit of joy. A pleasure in living one day at a time. Which marked this year's Seniors — each girl and each hoy As explorers united in love in the climb Touard a future whose distant and beckoning light Would sometimes he shrouded in mystery and night. But whose challenge uould offer an endless delight As they reached for the summit sublime. And this class leases behind a u onderfut dream For consecutite seniors to share: They ent isioned success for themselves and their school. And they followed that dream up u ith prayer For the strength to grou stronger in body and mind. For the will to he bumble, the grace to he kind. For the patience to live as the Master designed. And the talent to do and to dare. Vis that talent creative which fulfilled the dream And this year's Senior Class satisfied. And their spirit of joy which these pages esteem Is their legacy personified. A special thanks goes to the businesses who helped make this year's annual possible. It is because of the community's support that Guymon High School is able to excel and achieve. The unique people of Guymon provide a wonderful example for the students and encouragement for the future. Organizations such as Entre Nous and Rotary support students and show that the business world is closely related to school happenings. Many students have after school jobs that provide much of the needed labor, so there is a direct contact everyday. Thanks again to all the businesses who helped make this book a reality.
