Aria would like to attend PSC and hopes to become a sec- retary. MARY ATKINS is another twelve year Senior and is in Orchestra and Choir. She finds her interests in music and snow skiing. After college Mary will follow a business career. BRICE BALLARD has at- tended Guymon schools for ten years. After grad- uation Brice hopes to at- tend a Bible college to study ministry. Seniors Stay Well Represented LARRY BALLOU is one of Guymon’s most outstanding athletes. lie has played football and basketball both. Larry would like to further his educa- tion at Oklahoma State University. You will not find more active members of the GHS football team and Pep Club than the Senior Class representatives for the Student Council. Diana Cole, Otis Barnum, and Todd Ralstin were chosen by the members of the Senior Class because of their outstanding leadership abilities. Our twelve year sen- iors are pictured paying a rare visit to the first grade room where their educa- tions began. It All DAVID I3ATTERMAN has attended the Guymon schools for twelve years. David is a member of the VICA Club and lists archery as his favorite pas- time. David hopes to be an attorney after graduation from OU. VICKI BATTERMAN is an active member in Girl Scouts and claims water skiing as her most enjoyable sport. Vicki plans to follow a career as a laboratory technician upon grad- uation from Panhandle State. Began Here OTIS BARNUM, an outstanding ath- lete, is serving as a Student Council Representative and was elected Class Favorite this year by his classmates. After graduation he hopes to attend Southwestern State College. JOE BEAVERS is a member of the Math Club, Science Club, the National Honor Society, and still finds time for football. He hopes to follow the career as an electrical engineer. 13 PHYLLIS BENNETT has attended Guymon schools for twelve years. She lists horseback riding and swimming as her hobbies, and plans to further her education at P.S.C. The Tiger seems to be the first person the Senior new-comers met when entering the doors to Guymon High School. Joe Dondlinger from Gruver, Texas, receives an envious eye from Cathy Foster, Perryton, Texas; Sue West, Stratford, Texas; Jan Morgan, Artcsia, LORETTA BLACKBURN is in the Pep Club, FHA and Girl Scouts.. Lo- retta enjoys horse back riding and writing to her pen pals. She is going to attend Enid Business College. ALLEN BREITHAUPT, a twelve year Guymonite, plans to become a com- puter repair engineer. He plans to attend Panhandle State then transfer to Denver University. New Mexico; and Sarah Wilkinson, Kansas City, Missouri, as they look on while Joe makes friends with the Guy- mon Tiger. Newcomers Get a Tiger Welcome PAT BUCHANAN has attended Guy- mon High School for two years and has been an active member of the Pep Club. Pat lists cooking and sewing as her favorite pastimes. She would like to attend Southwestern and be- come an elementary teacher. JERRY BUNCH, Vice-President of his Junior and Senior classes, is in Boy’s Glee Club, Math, and Science Club. Jerry will go to PSC and then OU Medical School where he will prepare for a career in the medical field. MARCIA BURKETT is an active member of FHA and was elected pres- ident this year. After graduation from OSU she would like to be a social worker or home economics teacher. 15 RAYMOND BUXTON has been a member of the Class of ’69 for eight years. Raymond names cars and track as his pastimes and hobbies. Panhandle is Raymond’s choice of colleges. PHIL BYERLEY is in Drama Club and ICT. Phil is undecided on the col- lege he hopes to attend but wants to be a mechanic or physical education teacher. LINDA CAMPBELL, Senior cheerlead- er, is in the Oklahoma and National Honor Societies. Linda is president of her MYF youth group. She would like to follow a career as an elementary school teacher. The crowning of the 1968 Football Queen was a highlight of the Guymon Tigers Homecoming. Jill McMurry was crowned queen by her escort Otis Barnum. Her court was Una Jo Mahancy, escorted by Melvin Earl, and Nancy Northup, escorted by Hardy Collins. 4 RONALD CARDEN is a member of the Diversified Occupations classes and is presently employed by Hinchey Ford Inc. Ronald enjoys drag racing and is planning to attend PSC where he will train to become a mechanic. FLOYD CASTLEBERRY moved to Guymon two years ago from Catoosa. Floyd likes to hunt and wants to be a member of the FBI or a teacher. Floyd is undecided where he will attend col- lege. ALEN CLEMANS has attended the Guymon Schools for four years and has been in Diversified Occupations and Drama Club. Alan plans to train as an auto mechanic while attending Pan- handle State. ’68 Homecoming ANOTHER HIGHLIGHT of the Homecoming Festivities was the bonfire which took place October 24, the night before the game. A contest was held between the classes to see which class could gather the most wood. The Seniors won the contest and their sign topped the mound of burning wood. JUDY COOPER has been a twelve year member of the Class of 1969. Judy may attend Panhandle but plans to follow the career as a housewife. 17 1969 Senior UNA JO MAHANEY was selected a Class Favorite this year by classmates, and she holds many other honors. She was first runner-up to the 1968 Football Queen. Una Jo has been a twirler for G.H.S. for two years, and she is on the 1969 El Tigre Staff. TODD RALSTIN, one of the Class Favorites has been a member of the Class of ’69 for twelve years. Todd has participated in football and basketball and served both well. This year Todd is a Student Council Representative. Class Favorites JILL Me MURKY, another class favorite is a very active member of G.H.S. She has been a cheerleader for five years and is head cheer- leader this year. She was named 1968 Home- coming Queen, and Pioneer Queen of 1967. Jill is the reigning F.F.A. Sweetheart for 1968-69, and a staff member of the El Tigre 1969. 01 IS BARNUM has played on the basketball and football teams of Guymon ever since he came to Guymon schools five years ago. He has also held many offices throughout his school years, and this year he is serving as a Student Council Representative. DIANA COLE has been a member of the Class of ’69 for twelve years. This year her activities are president of Pep Club, a member of N.H.S., Student Council, and Math Club. Diana plans to study nursing at O.U. HARDY COLLINS has attended Guy- mon Schools for four years. He par- ticipates in football and basketball. Hardy was elected secretary of his Senior Class. Ilardy plans to attend OSU to follow a teaching career. BOBBIE COOK is active in the Girls Glee Club, Pep Club, High School Choir and the U.Y.M. Bobbie was elect- ed treasurer of Safety Council and also vice-president of Drama Club. She plans to attend P.S.C. STEVE CULLOP has attended Guymon Schools for ten years. Steve names cycles as his favorite hobby and he plans to follow a career as a con- tractor. 20 ANXIOUSLY AWAITING the beginning of a basketball game, are the Senior Sponsors: Glen Phillips, Ruth Shackelford, Melvin Cruzan. The Good Guys MIKE DAVIS is a twelve year student at Guymon Schools and lists drawing, fishing, and hunting as his hobbies. He would like to follow a career in carp- entry. GEORGE DAWSON is a ten year mem- ber of Guymon Schools. Hunting is his favorite pastime. George plans to attend P.S.C. and wants to be a tool pusher. 21 DIANE DIETRICH is active in band, orchestra, mixed choir, Girls’ Chorus, Pep Club, Math Club, M.Y.F., and is treasurer of N.H.S. Music is Diane’s pastime and she plans to attend OSU. Two loyal supporters of the Guymon Tigers as well as the Class of ’69 are Linda Campbell and Jill McMurry. Jill has been a cheerleader for the Class of ’69 for five years. This year she is serving as head cheerleader. Linda has cheered on the Tigers for two years, once in the ninth grade and again this year. JERRY DIXON is another twelve year student of Guymon Schools. He names music as his hobby and wants to attend college in California. CINDY DOLLINS is a twelve year member of the Class of ’69. She is active in band, Pep Club, and Math Club. Cindy plans to attend Oklahoma University and wants to be a math teacher. 22 JOE DONDLINGER came to Guymon High School from Gruver, Texas, and names hunting as his favorite pastime. Joe plans to attend Southwestern, but is undecided about his career. MARY JANE DONOVAN is active in Pep Club, E.H.A., Girls Glee Club, and names sewing as her favorite pastime. Mary Jane is undecided on where she will attend college but plans to follow secretarial work. TERRY DUNKERSON is another twelve year student of Guymon and is active in V.I.C.A. and football. Terry’s pastime is cars. He is undecided on his career and about where he will attend college. Cheerleaders Push Pep MELVIN EARL is active in football, basketball, track, Math Club, and Bap- tist Young People and names sports as his hobby. Melvin plans to be a mathe- matics teacher. LYNNE EARNST is a twelve year senior who is active in band. Rainbow. Pep Club, and Math Club. Lynne will attend O.U. and major in business or math. REGENIA EVINS is another twelve year senior. She is active in choir, orchestra, Girls Glee Club and Pep Club. Music and singing, and listening to records are her pastime. Regina would like to major in elementary education. 23 KATHY FARIS has attended Guymon Schools for twelve years. Her pastimes are horseback riding, modeling, and swimming. Kathy would like to go to college at Oklahoma City and follow a modeling career, then go to an IBM school. CATHY FOSTER moved to Guymon from Perryton, Texas, and lists house- keeping as her pastime. Cathy would like to stay at home and be a house- wife. LINDA FOSTER is active in orchestra, choir, Girls Glee Club, and Pep Club. Linda has received orchestra awards, and was on the Oklahoma Honor So- ciety for two years. She plans to major in business. JO FRAZIER is another twelve year Senior student. She is active in Pep Club, F.H.A., and M.Y.F., and names music and hair designing as her hob- bies. Jo would like to attend a barber college and follow a career as a barber or hair designer. DON FRANTZ is a twelve year senior of Guymon. His hobby is working on cars. He plans to attend P.S.C. and wants to follow a career in Data Proces- sing. GARY FREEMAN has attended Guy- mon High School for three years. Gary would like to attend an automotive school and become an auto mechanic. MIKE FRANTZ has attended school at Guymon for seven years. Mike’s pas- times are hunting, swimming, and horseback riding. He would like to follow a business career after attending P.S.C. JUDY GOOCH has also attended Guy- mon Schools for seven years. She is active in Pep Club, and horses and reading are her pastimes. Judy will attend Amarillo Business College and follow a secretarial career. THE POPULAR MINI SKIRTS were looked down upon by the faculty this year, so some students decided to take steps to change their minds. Pictured are Laura Kane, Janet Henson, Leiloni Stamper, Peggy Reed, Jill McMurry, and Karen Johnson. They presented themselves before Mrs. Griffis, school counselor, with a bit of the midi-look instead. 25 Mary Ann Atkins, Gayle Wool- dridge, and Jenna McCutchen sang sweetly and delightfully. Senior Assembly 1968 The Senior Band played a couple swinging numbers. Pictured are L Ernest, William King, Tom Rohr H 1 MV 111 Mil Members of the P.T.A. were Lucian Lee. Gail Howell, and David Kidwell. Also shown is Marcia Burkett as Mrs. Johnson. “Harper Valley P.T.A.” was pantomimed by Karen Johnson and Marcia Burkett. The Senior Assembly displayed the many talents of the Class of 69 and was enjoyed by all. The assembly theme was “The Amateur Hour,” but everyone who performed showed a bit of the professional look. The class officers served as judges and the best act received an award. Daryl Lewis, Diane Dietrich, Mary Anne Atkins, Joan Mathewson, Mary Mott, and Sherry Sturdivan. Lucian Lee and Jerry Dixon won the prize for the best act. They sang a song they wrote themselves. GLORIA GOTCHER has attended Guy- mon Schools for seven years. She lists singing and piano as her hobbies, and woud like to attend P.S.C. or Enid Business College and plan her career as a secretary. HELEN HAGER has attended school in Guymon for eleven years. She is in Girls Choir, Math Club, and Wes- leyan Youth. Helen plans to attend Northwestern State College and would like to follow a career in elementary or secondary education. LINDA HAMILTON is a twelve year student of Guymon, who is active in Pep Club and enjoys watching football games. Linda would like to attend a beauty college. The G.H.S. Ivan enjoys flying. lie is undecided on where lie will attend college. SHARON HARDING came to Guymon from Washington, Oklahoma. Sharon plans to attend Panhandle State at Goodwell. She is undecided on what career she will follow. DEBBIE HARRISON has gone to school here for four years. Her hobbies are hiking and swimming. Debbie will attend P.S.C. and plans to be an American History teacher. GHS Dress Code? TOMMY HEFLIN has attended Guy- mon Schools for eleven years. Tommy enjoys hunting and fishing, and plans to attend P.S.C. and follow a career in forestry. KENT HEGSTROM has attended Guy- mon High for two years, and names drag racing as his hobby. Kent plans to attend P.S.C. MARSHA HENDRICKSON is active in choir, Pep Club, Math Club, Girls Glee Club, M.Y.F., and names reading as her pastime. Marsha plans to attend O.U. and follow a career in medical technology. 29 The Senior English class took on a happy look when this shot was taken. Senior English teacher and Senior Sponsor, Melvin Cruzan, always provides some kind of enjoyment in his classes, from sentence structure to Macbeth. Class Can JANET HENSON is a twelve year Senior of Guymon, and names piano playing as her hobby. She is active in Drama Club, Rainbow. F.H.A., Girls Choir, Mixed Choir. M.Y.F., and Pep Club. Janet plans to attend Weather- ford, majoring in history or psychol- ogy- f4 GWENDOLYN HILL is another twelve ear Senior, active in Girls Glee Club, Pep Club, and Mixed Choir, and names swimming, tennis, and sewing as her pastimes. Gwen plans to attend P.S.C. hut is undecided about her career. KAREN HILL is a twelve year Senior also. She is active in Pep Club, Girl Scouts, and Walther League. Karen names outdoor sports and pen pals as her pastimes. She plans to follow a career in special education of retarded children. 30 HARRY HININGER has attended Gu - mon Schools for ten years. Barry plans to attend college at P.S.C. He is un- decided about a career. FRED HINTERGARDT has attended Guymon for four years. He is active in Vocational Carpentry. Track, work- ing on cars and hunting are his hob- bies. Fred plans to follow a career as an army draftsman. DEBBIE HOOPER has attended Guy- mon Schools for seven years. Her hob- bies are dancing, reading, and water skiing. Debbie plans to attend college at Oklahoma City and plans to be an interior decorator. Be Interesting Zoology is a very interesting course, but is not recommended for queasy stomachs. Sarah Wilkinson, Diana Cole, and Fredda Howard are pictured dissecting earthworms like professionals and seem to be enjoying every minute of it. 31 RICK HOOPER is a twelve year senior. He is active in debate, and reading debate material is his bobby. Rick plans to attend O.S.U. or O.U. and he will major in Political Science. Doug King reaches high for the Senior Class, when it .was the Seniors’ turn to put their decorations on the school’s annual Christmas tree. The decorating of the tree took place on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1968. It was sponsored by the Student Council. Seniors on Top FREDDA HOWARD has attended Guy- mon Schools for four years and is active in Drama Club. Fredda plans her career as an architect and dec- orator. GAIL HOWELL has attended Guymon High School for three years. She is active in Pep Club, Math Club, Rain- bow, Girl Scouts, and Debate. Gail plans to attend O.S.U. or O.U., and he a math or physical education teacher. SANDRA HUDDLESTON lists her activities as Girl Scouts, Rainbow, M.Y.F., Pep Club. This year marks Sandra’s twelfth year in Guymon Schools. She plans to attend P.S.C. 32 Every year the Entre Nou and Rotary Clubs sponsor the Senior Girl and Boy of the Month. Each month an outstanding Senior hoy and girl are selected by the school faculty. September: Connie Worley and Hardy Collins; October: Diana Cole and Orin Piepho; November: Diane Dietrich and Joe Beavers; December: Joan Mathewson and Melvin Earl. Eighteen Honored Seniors Second semester honorees are—January: Jenna McCutchen and Kris Truitt; February: Linda Campbell and Jerry Bunch; March: Gayle Woolridge and Barry Hutchinson; April: Jill McMurry and Bob Justus; May: Mary Anne Atkins and Kevin Lindley. The Senior Class was the first class in history to win the Fun Festival with over half the points possible, and the first Senior class to win the ticket sale. They had eight firsts, three seconds, and two thirds to wind up with a total of fifty-one points. Shown here are some of the contestants that participated in the many events. ROGER HUFFINE is an active mem- ber of the G.H.S. Choir, where he had a lead in the musical performances of “My Fair Lady” and “Finian’s Rain- bow.” He plans to attend O.S.U. to major in marketing and merchandis- ing. Senior Instrumental Talent: Kris Truitt, Lucian Lee, Jerry Dixon, and Daryl Lewis placed third, hut the entire Senior Class was proud of them. BARRY HUTCHISON was elected treasurer for his Senior Class. He had a lead in the 1968 Choir Musical. He plans to attend O.S.U. to follow a career in the U. S. Air Force. Pie-eating contestants, Sandra Huddleston and Fred Ilintcrgardt, placed second. Break All Records KAREN JOHNSON is a twelve year student at G.H.S. She is active in Drama Club, F.H.A. and Pep Club. Karen plans to attend P.S.C. and would like to major in Physical Education. HOB JUSTUS was a representative of the Student Council. His favorite pas- time is raising livestock. Bob would like to attend P.S.C. or O.S.U. and major in Animal Husbandry. DENNIS JOHNSON has attended Guy- mon Schools for ten years. He is en- rolled in the I.C.T. course this year. He hopes to attend P.S.C. to major in agriculture. The 1969 Mess Guymon: Mess Dennis McKinzie. r v LAURA KANE is a member of Pep Club and the Color Guard. She is the editor of the publications project, the EL TIGRE. Laura is also an active member of Rainbow and plans to at- tend Oklahoma University. GLORIA AMES came to Guymon this year from Spiro, Okla. Following graduation, Gloria hopes to attend the School of Ozark’s to train to be a beauty operator or business operator. LINDA KEEZER has been a member of the Class of ’69 for twelve years. She is Classes Editor for the EL TIGRE. Linda is undecided about her future after graduation. Seniors Are Leaders 36 DAVID KIDWELL is an active mem- ber of GHS Choir where he is vice- president and held the male lead in the Choir musical. David is also a member of Boys’ Glee Club and Publi- cations. He plans to attend college at Bethany. DOUG KING is a member of GHS Choir, Boys’ Glee Club, and band. He plans to enter architectural engineering at Oklahoma State after graduation. WILLIAM KING, another twelve year memher of the Senior Class, is an active member of the GHS Band. He is undecided as to what career he will follow but plans to attend P.S.C. BECKY KLEFFMAN is a member of Pep Club, Girls’ Choir, and her church youth group. Becky hopes to attend Southwestern State after graduation. JERRY LEE enjoys playing football, pool, the guitar, and going bowling. Jerry plans to attend Panhandle State College to major in parts-business. LUCIAN LEE is an active member of Debate Club and the Varsity Debate Team. Lucian would like to major in veterinary medicine at Oklahoma State and Southwestern State College. of Tomorrow TOMMY LEE has attended Guymon Schools for six years. Tommy hopes to attend the Oklahoma School of Bank- ing and Business in the Data Process- ing Dept. BILL LEGRANGE plays on the bas- ketball, football, and golf teams. After graduation Bill plans to attend Way- land in Plainview, Texas to enter the career of coaching. DARYL LEWIS is active in debate, drama, and Philoi. He enjoys spending his spare time playing the drums. Daryl hopes to attend Southwestern State to major in law. THE GUYMON HIGH SCHOOL DEBATE TEAM ... Rick Hooper, Dave Miller, Lucian Lee, and Daryl Lewis have represented GHS in numerous Oklahoma debate tournaments and also traveled to Denver and Texas for some out of state debates. Both teams have qualified for the Regional Tournament and are expected to qualify for the State Tournament to be held at Edmond, Oklahoma. They are shown here displaying the first place trophy that Dave Miller and Rick Hooper won at Southwestern State College. Dave and Rick also woh second at the Tahlequah High School tournament, the second largest tournament in the nation. Alamo Cath Woodward .-’if 'A Under the guidance of the new GHS coaching staff composed of Larry Ledbetter, Phil Edgmon, Gary Guffey, and Jerry Lawley, the Guymon Tigers closed out the season of regular play with four wins and seven losses. Throughout the playing season luck was against the hoys. Injuries and inexperience buried any hopes of placing high on the charts as in previous seasons. With quickness and tradition the Tigers fought Alva to a 28-20 decision, which was decided in the closing seconds of the game. They also fell to the District 1-A Champions, Woodward Boomers. The only Guymon win on home ground came when the Tigers blanked Raton 21-0. The other wins came at Stratford, Alamo Catholic, and Tucumcari. They lost a pair to Perry ton and Dumas, and singles to Carl Albert, Clayton, Lamar, Guthrie, Clinton, and Liberal. The Tigers took wins twice from Alva, Raton, and Woodward, and won matches from Lamar, Clay- ton, and Liberal. In Regional play the Tigers lost to 6th ranked El Reno in their opening game at Clinton.
