These people come from their homes in many different ways. Some in cars, some on mo- tor scooters, some in school buses, and some of the more hardy ones, by foot. Once inside the building, they may become engaged in many dif- ferent activities. The primary obiect is to teach the students, so the twenty-one members of the faculty try to instruct their charges in the many subiects taken by Guthrie High School students. A class meeting or a meeting of one of the many school organizations may interrupt the schedule Between classes, the sound of locker doors slamming mingles with the sound of running feet and the ring of merry laughter. At noon, the halls are filled with people talking or just wandering around. After school, everyone rushes home to study so they can attend the ball game that night. This is the Kynewisbok! This is the book that reviews all the happenings of the school during the year. We hope that as you thumb through your copy, you will remember many dif- ferent events which are in some way special to you. The i958 edition of the Kynewisbok could not have been completed without the full co-oper- ation of the students and faculty of Guthrie High for a short time, but soon they are back in class. DEDICATION ln every school there is one person who stands out for devotion and service. Mrs. A. D. Bradshaw has served this school for more than seventeen years. She has been a teacher, counselor, friend, and com- panion. She herself has attained many honors while guiding her students along the road of life. Her friendliness and selfless application to the principles of education have served to endear her to the many she has taught and known. We can only express our feelings by saying, 'We love n you. i l l Not only does Mrs. Bradshaw teach 6 classes at two schools, but also she devotes much of her time to other activities. As sponsor of the Brush and Pal- ette Art Club, she uses many hours in decorating ban- quets and as sponsor of the senior class, she spends a lot of hurried moments helping the senior officers run the class smoothly. Whenever anyone needs her help in any way, Mrs. Bradshaw is always there to assist as best she can. 'N .W 1, ,lil X-Q f , vw -. IAP ' D43 U when r u Mr. Mark Ekiss, Mr. C. J. The Jayettes started the year by voting on new white sweaters instead of the traditional blue ones and rules for the attendance at the games. The rule that pledges would help the club by selling pins and bracelets instead of having an initiation was put into effect. The Jayettes also sponsored a pep rally, snake dance, and bonfire for the Homecoming activities. Ban- quets honoring the football and basketball teams were held at the Masonic ChiIdren's Home. FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA The Future Farmers Of America is a Nat- ional organization for farm boys studying voca- tional agriculture in public high schools. The F.F.A. is an intercirrcular activity having its orgin and root in a definite part of the school cirriculum-- vocational agriculture. Vocational agriculture has been considered the college course for rural youth, who may wish to successfully enter farming directly after partial or full completion of high school without the means or inclination to attend an agricultural college. The foundation includes leadership, character development, sportsmanship, co- operation, service, thrift, scholarship, improved agriculture, organized recreation, citizenship, and patriotism. The chief goal is the develop- ment of competent and stable farm boys, who will use themselves in the soil, and who will reflect pride in their achievement, their land, their homes, and their communities. The Guthrie Future Farmers are iustly proud of their organization and accomplish- ments. The chapter now has the enviable re- cord of having twelve national iudging teams in competition since T949. The Guthrie chapter represented Oklahoma in the National Dairy Products judging contest this fall at Waterloo, lowa. The team was composed of Phil Owen, Doyel Castle, Joe Bartram, and Donald Anglin. They placed in the silver bracked which is second. Merle Taylor shows o beef. Ronnie Bock shows his lamb A life of leisure. Joe Hall with a prize animal. Sharon Lillie, Harold Logsdon, Larry Marang, and .lay Mckee were regulars on the show. Those who took occasional turns at the mike included Elton LeHew, Julie Bartho- lomew, Jennie Miller, and Charlene Brown. This year's 'Blueiay Revue' was directed by Jay McKee. Next year, Sharon Lillie will head the 'Blueiay Revue' staff. RGVAL BLUE Velma Drennan, Nyanzia Brandenburg, Marilyn Hughes, and Rosetta Wells made up the staff of this year's Royal Blue. With Mr. Wagoner as a sponsor and advisor, they worked hard all year to publish a monthly newspaper for the enioyment of the faculty and student body of Guthrie High School. With editions for special occassions such as Christmas, Valen- tines Day, and similar events, the Royal Blue kept the entire school well informed on events and happenings all year. Later in the year, Jim Anthisn and Harold Logsdon joined the staff to help in making the news coverage more complete. FOOTBALL This year the Guthrie Blue Jays were led by Coach Bob Daugherty. This was the first year for Coach at G.H.S. With Bob Weems and Phil Kirtley as assistants, Coach formed a fine team. The Blue Jays played a hard fought football season, but came out with 3 wins and 7 losses. The fighting Jays were out-weighed in every game but put up such a battle that the other teams were at least surprised. The Guymon team beat us at the Homecoming game last year and thought they could do it this year, but were surprised when the Jays overpowered them in a l3-7 tilt. The next victim was Edmond. The Blue Jays downed the Bull Dogs 28-25. The Big Blue then out hustled the Chilocco lndians l3-0 to finish up an improved year. Out going lettermen include Charles Crooks, Eugene Harraman, Larry Marang, and Richard Woodard. These seniors played good ball all year and the team will find trouble in replacing them. Chester Kemper, and S.F.C. Basil W. Handy. Twice a week the Battle Group drilled and learned new movements, demonstrating what they learned at a number of parades throughout the school year. The two outstanding events of the R.0.T.C. year were the trip to Fort Sill, which the entire corps found entertaining as well as highly educa- tionalg and the annual Federal Inspection in April, in which all members of the Corps worked hard to attain the Honor Rating. The Drill Team, composed entirely of Jun- iors and Sophomores had a successful year, under the direction of MfSgt. Kemper. They performed at football and basketball games at home and away. They also accompanied the Rifle Team, Battle Group Commander, and Sponsors to Arlington, Texas for competition. The Rifle Team coached by S.F.C. Handy had a highly successful year. They fired in the match at Arlington and placed quite well. Kneelin: Rex Bechenhauer, John Poor, Robert Zelley, Robert Gerlach.
