CLHSS HISTUHU In attempt1ng to record the h1story of the class of 1954 we frnd we are al most overwhelmed by the greatness of the task In 1950 four years ago th1s fall the present sen1or class entered upon 1ts crulse 1n the vast ocean of knowledge encounter1ng reefs shoals and many un known per1ls but enter1ng safely the w1shed for haven at last Com1ng from the hamlets hedges and by paths of all parts of Kentucky we met here at Guthr1e and took upon ourselves the role of freshman In th1s year we were too tlmld to have much fun W1th an enrollment of twelve we elected our off1cers Pres1 dent Mary Frances Warren V1ce Pres1dent Mack Howell Secretary Treas urer Genetta Orr Reporter Elmer Johnson w1th Mr Nall as sponsor Aga1n 1n 1951 we came back as happy go lucky sophomores Hav1ng lost Mam1e Buck and galned Gayle Clayton we aga1n elected our off1cers Pre sldent Sam Harper V1ce Pres1dent Owen Banton Secretary Frank G1ll Treas urer Gayle Clayton Reporter Margaret Ann Johnson Our sponsor was Mr Rochelle We were very glad to have Mary Frances Warren elected cheer leader Th1s was our good t1me year for we had been 1n school long enough to have shaken off our t1m1d1ty entrrely yet not qu1te long enough to real1ze that we should take our work serlously Commencement was the crown1ng glory to our good t1me year and thus ended our sophomore days When we came back to school as Jumors our class had lost Gayle Clayton and Elmer Johnson but we were proud of four of our boys Owen Frank Mack and Walter as they were on the vars1ty team Mrs Bas1l Sm1th was class spon I , . , . . . . , . , - . , . . - I . , - , . . . , . z .- use I - I uso g - - Q.. , ..- , . . s . . i . .
