THE 56 TIGERETTES Conference Champs County Champs Secuonal Champs Dtstrrct Champs State Tournament Coached by Orvrlle Frazrer The Trgerettes turned tn an tmpresslve 23 3 record mth a team whrch ranks among the best rn the hrstory of the school Another pleasant thought ts the fact that our starttng team IS one of the youngest tn the school hrstory The startmg team consrsted ofSen1or Judy Brady Junlors Harrrett Davrs Beulah Grove Barbara Beane and Sophomores Jody Beck and Janet Paulsen Although all three guards were startlng for the frrst time th1s season they assembled a tough defense and lrved up to the school tradrtton showtng tremendous destre and hustle The four gtrls who played most of the t1me as guards rmproved all the way and at the end of the season ranked fourth rn the State Tourna ment freld All three of the startrng guards rece1ved recogrutron as outstandrng players Harrrett Davls and Judy Brady made the All County teams wh11eBeu1ah Grove and Judy Brady made All Conference teams Although Drane Cradtck drd not play enough to recerve recogmtxon on an honor team she rs a valuable rebounder and her potentral should be tested another year The team th1s year boasted the hrghest scormg outfrt rn the school hrstory Thelr 84 pomts scored tn the Churdan game stands as a record here rn grrls basketball The lugh scormg drd not stop there for the 1,439 pomts scored thrs year rs thehrghest total scored for one year of play Its 58 pomt offensrve average but the good team balance whrch If possessed For whtle rts guards ranked hrgh 1n the state each one of the forwards ftwo sophomores and one Jumorj rank hrgh tn all t1me scormg for the school Janet Paulsen who scored 390 pomts for the year holds the record for the most held goals ever scored by a sophomore m a srngle year Jody Beck wrth 451 pomts holds the record as the hrghest sophomore scorer of all trme and already rn her young career ranks second as the all trme free throw shooter or11y 16 pornts from the record Barbara Beane who rs the htghest scorer for the year wrth 604 pomts now holds the record for the hrghest Junior scorer of all trme She has a 24 pornt average for the year and a 30 pornt average through the tournaments Her 24 pomt average IS Just one pomt from the 25 pornt all trme record held by Barbara Davrs who set the record as a semor It appears that the lrfe trme record of 1 500 pomts held by Joyce Bennett may be threatened by all the present forwards rf they contrnue to score at the torrrd pace set by them th1s year and there rs a good chance that one or more of etther the guards or the forwards may garn recognttron on the all state teams when the selecnons come out thrs sprrng Both Janet Paulsen and Barbara Beane were chosen on All County teams and all three of the forwards rece1ved honors on All Conference selectrons Janet Paulsen won the Sectronal free throw champtonshrp with 21 out of 25 and placed thlrd ln the Drstrrct wrth 22 out of 25 free shots Undoubtedly the hlghlrghts of the year came when the team played what rs beheved to be one of 1ts best efforts rn the State Tournament and rece1ved the pratse of basketball fans all over the state Wrthout questron many an anxtous Guthrre fan wrll be lookmg forward wrth opunustrc antrctpanon to the comrng year This Page Sponsored by JAY HASBROUCK and OSCAR SCHEEDER IMPLEMENTS is an all-time record at GCHS in girls' basketball.
