Safurday evening of commencemenr weekend, a dinner was given by ihe Greafer Gusfavus Associafion in honor of Counfess BernadoHe. Ber+il, Ambassador Boheman, and ihe 'rwo hundred Iwenfy-six graduafes. The dinner audience of five hundred fiffy was fhrilled when Ambassador Boheman. alfhough nof scheduled Io speak unfil ihe Memorial service Sunday affernoon, asked Dr. Carlson 'For Ihe privilege of 'rhe floor and said, When I drove 'today Through fhe beauliful counfryside beiween Minneapolis and Sf. The library will remind young men and women who siudy in iis halls fhaf 'lhe greafesf of all is 'Phe servanf of all. In preparing for lheir life work. young people will be reminded daily of 'rhe simple and humanifarian philosophy of Follce Bernado+fe: We do noi' live fo be happy ourselves. buf +o make ofhers happy. A+ re l' ih l'b p sen e l rary has approximafely 36.000 cafalogued books. Off fhe main lobby is 'ihe Pioneer Room. This room was compleiely furnished by Dr. Edwin J. Viclrner and his wife. Berfha Almen Vickner. and houses fhe Almen- Viclrner collecfion of books, now numbering some 4,200 volumes. In +he collection are all fypes of books, selecfed by fhe donors for general culfural and recreaiional reading. While on fhe campus Bergen visifed 'rhe Follce Bernadoffe Memorial Library and paid 'rribufe 'lo his friend. Coun+ Bernadolfe was one of fhe world's greafesf ci+izens and one of Sweden's grealesf heroes. Swedish-Americans are graie- ful 'rhaf a nafional memorial in his memory has been esfablished af Gusfavus Adolphus College, which was founded by Swedish pioneers and is locafed in The cenfer of ihe largesi concenirafion of persons of Scandinavian desceni in fhis couniry.
