Mr. Mettlen In September, 1952, the Senior Class enlarged to 13. Phyllis Freudenberg and Simon Valdez joined our class. We initiated the Freshmen and gave them a picnic at Greenwood. The class had their Senior pictures taken in October. The class motto is: Not Finished: Tust Begun, the class flowerg white rose, and class colors are blue and white. Class Will WE THE SENIORS OF 53 being of sound mind and memory do hereby make, publish. and declare this to be our last will and ' testament. Simon wills his height to Norval D. Phyllis wills her ability to sleep in study hall to Carol C. so she can catch up on her sleep during the day. Dick wills his good conduct grades to Riley. Allen wills his ability to hold hands with jane to Ray so j'ane's hands will never be cold. Joyce wills her brown hair to -Ioyce H. so she may always be a Cannibal Queen. Kenny wills all of his girls in Sidney to Riley so Gurley boys will always be represented there. Jack wills his station wagon to Bob B. so that he may always have room for his many girls. Francine wills her height to Ruth Kenzy so she can write a whole problem on the blackboard. Beverly wills her laugh to Carol Christofferson so that there may always be the echos of laughter in Gurley High School. Donald wills his careful driving to Norval D. Richard Wills his new 1938 hot rod to Pete Rehmer so he can drive to school instead of having to walk, Eleanor wills her ability to paint beautiful girls on boys' T-shirts to Riley S. so he won't have to go to Sidney to find pretty girls. Shirley wills her hemming ability to Darlene so that there may always be some one working overtime in Home Economics and the Home Economics teacher may never get lonesome. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, we the Seniors have set our hand and seal hereto this 22nd day of May, 1953. eg Senior Class Prophecy Mr. john Reta in 1973 came back to Gurley in his Kaiser which he had when he left us. He came back to make a survey on the delicate Seniors of '53, This is what he reported: Mr. Mettlen is still superintendent at G. H. S. He built a new atomic bomb proof schoolhouse so if the school is ever - attacked the students will not be disturbed. This is now a push- button world we live in, so the other day Mr. Mettlen bought a machine that corrects papers so now the teachers will have a chance to catch their breath between classes. Mrs. Carley is still trying to teach the Home Economics girls to sew a straight seam. She also teaches the Kindergarten class. She gets along with the kids better than ever. iShe is a litte childish herself now., Mrs. Knudtson is teaching bookkeeping and is trying to teach the girls how to add figures but the boys don't have any trouble. jack has achieved his ambition of being one of the Mills Brothers. He is now a black faced commedian in the Bojangles Minstrel Show and has them rolling in the aisles with his croon- ing. Dick is medicine man at the same show 'to keep in practice with his line of gab which he must use as a barker in the circus in the summer. P.S. Due to his love of beards he has been dating the bearded lady for the last 15 years. Allen lost his S10 bet to Mrs. K. upon his marriage ll months and Z9 days after graduation. He sits at the corner of Hollywood and Vine and sells pencils to try to make enough to keep his stomach from meeting his backbone. Simon has changed considerably from his high school days of not saying over two or three words a day. He is now filibustering in Congress and a well-known debator. When Congress isn't in session, he helps Dick at the circus because he wants to get ac- quainted with the Snake Charmer. Don is grease monkey for the United Air Lines in Sidney. He got so involved in nuts and bolts that he forgout to let go, and the last we saw of him he was floating along behind hanging on by his monkey wrench yelling--I-Ialp! Halpf His wife, Delores, is quite concerned because his pork chops are getting cold. Eleanor is about to become the wife of a prosperous doctor, but still finds time for taking care of her young patients. This is what she calls an ideal life. Beverly is the wife of a captain in the Air Force. She has also become a captain in the WAF's. Phyllis F, and Shirley G. are living in the same apartment and they are now the manager and assistant manager, respec- tively, of the biggest firm in Sidney. They are as intelligent as ever. Francine Hawkshaw Rose has her nose to the ground most of the time trying to pick up a scent. Her magnifying glass gets muddy once in a while, but she cares notg for someday day she may find who-dunnit. She's never married. Never had time to track anybody down. I Richard really did turn into a farmer and is still a bachelor because he is trying to give all the girls at G.H.S. a break and goes with a different one every year. Kenny is now professor of English at Nebraska University and has written a lot of good textbooks. The income is small but that is no matter toAKenny lhe loves his work.l Joyce has worked for years trying to type a hundred and twenty words a minute. She worked so long at one typewriter that she's now at the bottom of a deep, deep hole and fortunately has run into oil. She is now trying to decide whether to stay there or come on up and see how Richard's doing. Drop by in Z0 years and we'll tell you what she decided. N S Juniors BACK ROW: R Bartels, Ronald Kenzy.
