ln order to produce an effective yearbook, it is important to have the cooperation of many individuals. At this time, we would like to take the opportunity to thank some of these people who gave us the support we needed to get the job done. First of all, we would like to show our appreciation to Linda Searle and Anne Garr for being so helpful to the yearbook staff in such ways as collecting surveys, pictures, running off thousands of copies of pop polls, senior box sheets and various other forms needed throughout the year. The Oracle staff was also instrumental in that they provided us with articles and other necessary information. Thank you, Mr. Farrell, for sharing RC 5 with us and putting up with our staff in general. Ken Ruinard deserves recognition for waking up at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning to draw some excellent artwork at extremely short notice. Liz Thornton also deserves our thanks for her outstanding artwork on the division pages. Finally, we would like to thank all the people who helped us in the production of ads, sports, pop polls and fads. Without your support, the yearbook would not have been possible. Thank you very much, The 1982 Olympian Staff Putting together a yearbook is an awesome task. It cannot be done by any one individual or even a small group of people. It requires the cooperation and contribution of each and every member of the staff. Nothing would have been possible without the Photo staff. They were understaffed and overworked. Photo Editor Richard Jamison and his staff Eric Simmons, Paul Brown and Linda Wong spent many long hours after school and on weekends shooting, developing and printing the badly needed pictures. There were lost negatives and missing pictures, as there are in any production effort. The 1982 Olympian will reflect the outstanding results of their fine work. The Personnel section, all underclass and senior pictures, casuals, clubs and various other pages, is often taken for granted. These are some of the most monotonous and timevconsuming pages to work on. They are also some of the most important. Co-Personnel Editors Jeanie Waltuch and Nancy Parker and their staff, Janet Bording, Liz Thornton, Lindsay Blum, Sarah Bjork, Megan Wheeler and Marianne Murad, spent countless hours typing, organizing and laying out pages. Their dedication and hard work is what kept the staff together. Sports, led by Kathy Moffeit, had the always difficult task of scheduling team pictures and coaxing shy coaches to write articles in addition to their page layouts. This is no easy undertaking but Debby Liang, Chris Nelson, Ruth Hamerton- Kelly, Roy Myers and Kathy did a great job. Lena Jang, the Ads Editor, was new to yearbook this year. With a staff of one, Lena did the incredible job of organizing ads, contacting businesses and keeping the books up to date. She had some help from other staff members but the bulk of the work was done by her. She did an outstanding job and we couldn't have done it without her. The entire staff should be congratulated for the Ad sales this year. Never before has there been such enthusiasm and cooperation from everyone. We reached an all time high in individual combined sales. This is something to be proud of. There are several people who did extra pages in addition to their regular work on the staff. They performed above and beyond the call of duty and they deserve special thanks. Most of all, I would like to thank Mr. Penley. There were times when he yelled and got impatient with us but that was because he cared. Walking into an almost empty classroom or finding a big mistake were the times when this editor was ready to throw in the towel. Mr, Penley was always there to put things back into perspective. The Olympian would have been non-existent without him. In conclusion, I would like to personally thank each and every member of the 1982 staff. It was a great privilege to work with you all. Row 3: Paul Brown, Jeanie Waltuch, Bonnie Goodman, Lena Jang, Lindsay Blum, Richard Jamison Missing: Marianne Murad As production of the 1982 Olympian nears completion, many memories re- main - the successes and the disasters, the elation when things went well and the frustration when they did not, and those unforgetable times when some flash of inspiration materialized at just the right time to put our wheels back on the track. Putting together any publication has its problems as well as pleasures, and this year's effort was no exception. There were times when film turned up missing. Pictures we knew had been enlarged somehow vanished. Group shots were planned but had to be scrubbed because signals got crossed and the group andfor photographer didn't show lor went to the wrong lo- cationi. The staff photographers had to adjust to a system of darkroom scheduling far different from the pre- vious years. And when we all thought we had the situation in hand, it rained. And it rained. And it rained. Yes. We had our bleak moments, but, on balance, the bright spots left more lasting memories than did the unplea- santries. This year, for example, every Olympian staffer, led by Debbie Liang with nearly S400 in sales, met or ex- ceeded the S100 per person quota, an achievement never before attained. The whole Oly crew is to be congratu- lated for an outstanding effort, but many individual performances stand out too. One remembers Richard Jamison's long hours, both in his home darkroom and at school, working feverishly to produce color prints for our opening section. None of us will forget Nancy Parker, Jeanie Waltuch, Bonnie Good- man land othersi who always seemed to leave school with huge bundles of work to do at home. Eric Simmons constant activity in the darkroom and behind the camera were key contribu- tions to the overall effort as was Me- gan Wheeler's willingness to pitch in and help whenever the busy Personnel staff was rushing to prepare pages. Lena Jang, Advertising Editor, per- formed her job superbly - so well, in fact that this year's ad section is among the best ever as is our record of collecting payment from advertisers. There many others who rendered yeo- man service to the Olympian - Ken Ruinard, for example, who spent that last frantic Saturday preparing original art when we had no sophomore casual pictures and Liz Thornton's great de- signs throughout the year. lt's unfortu- nate that space does not allow men- tion of each staffer's strong individual effort without which the job would not have been completed. Let it suffice to say that everyone at Gunn owes a debt to the whole year- book staff. Thank you, one and all.
