V ,N -- V., -. My four years of athletics at Gunn have brought me many meaningful ex- periences and lessons that I'm sure I will use frequently in the future. One very important lesson is realying that your not going to reach any of your goals if you don't give 10006 all the time. The intensity of making a good tackle, putting a shot 52 feet, and hitting a home run are beyond description. Sports have helped me understand myself and they have helped me learn about dedication and discipline. When I have the time I love to pitch up a ball and go for the gusto. The friends I have made and the things I have learned through athletics will last me a life- time. Thanks to my many coaches who have helped me to excell in my sports. I plan to partici- pate in collegate athletics at Brigham Young. -Roger Campbell- 5 Mary Laub- Softball, Soccer, Volleyball I think that the most important thing about Gunn sports has been meeting new people and making new friends. lt's really great that the team members and people associated with the team remain friends and do things together after the season is over. On the teams that I have played on, we have always been able to have a good time as well as work hard for a goal. My fu- ture plans include coming back to watch the volleyball team beat Los Altos and win the league title!! 4

First girl to play water polo, experienced professional coaching and learned about disci- pline and dedication. But most of all the friends you make working for each other on the soccer field. Thank you Mrs. Little -Kim Kempton- I have always been actively involved in sports, but athletics at Gunn have been especially important to me. While cross-country and ten- nis are both individual sports, it was the team atmosphere that made both of these sports special. Memories of all the fun I had on both of these teams will always be strong. Probably my most powerful memory is of the pride that each team possessed. It was always a great confidence booster to know that forty or fifty people were behind you and cheering for you the whole time. Yet, as I look back I am glad that both are only games and will always con- tinue to be so. -Matt Porteus- Swimming has been a big part of my life. Having swum for Gunn for four years has shown me the real closeness and strength of a team. Swimming takes a lot of hard work and dedica- tion which, if you are willing to put out, it will pay off. I believe if you want to do something badly enough, you can! My ultimate goal in swimming is to make the Olympic trials in 1984! Next fall, I plan to attend Cal Berkeley and swim for the team. KI 37 .2 Running is just a game I love to play, but I do it with great desire, skill, and intensity. The game would never be 2 it On the surface, with all the butterfly, 5:15 morning workouts and time in- volved, swimming really isn't worth it. the same if it weren't for Mel I-Io, Hal Daner, Tena Harms, and all my friends on the Cubberley and Gunn Cross- Country and Track teams. I look for- ward to competing for Stanford or U.C. Berkeley, and after that . . . who knows where the finish line will be? -Esther Berndt V I, ,ff ',.-A--, ..
