These were the repeated things that will flash across memory's page so often in days to come. Of course, the prime purpose of going to col- lege is to develop one's mental power through the acquisition of knowledge and the discovery of methods to acquire even more. While this purpose is inherent, students have found also that school days involve living in the present as well as preparing for the future. Multiplied memories of happy associations, of joys and per- plexities, of despairs and triumphs, and of pleasur- able moments accumulate during the years that one studies to make later life better. The school year represented by this issue of SEA GULL was unusual for Gulf Park. Enrollment was at its historic high, over a fourth larger than the year before. The year began under duress and the heroic response of students and staff members to President James living in a four-mile distant motel, riding the bus to the campus, eating portable-kitchen-prepared food under quickly erected army tents-these improvisations and the spirit in which they were carried out will long be remembered. Then the new dining room and kitchen and an air-condi- tioned dormitory. Life's enjoyments come from the ordinary and usual as much as from the extraordinary and un- usual. Who can forget the taste of Bennieis cook- ing, of Eva's roasts and fried chicken, of Willie's rolls, and of the courteous way in which these de- lights were served by white-coated dining room assistants? Then there were confabs in the student lounges, yelling and rivalry and enthusiasm in sports events, the latest and the loveliest in the fashion shows, suspense and amusement in superb

The business man- ager is the one who must take care of these small but trying troubles, while he works with purchas- ing, accounting, budgeting, food service, the Y-Hut, the bookstore, and general maintenance of the grounds and buildings. Mr. Raboum, the present business manager, handles with ease and efficiency the burdens of this complex position. Mr. Rabourn and his wife Carol, with.their children, Bill and Sheri, have been at Gulf Park for three years.
